February 2025 Spin Challenge

Day 27 - No Brainer Day - Play something relaxing.

I don't know how relaxing this particular track is, but its certainly brainless. The rest of the soundtrack is fun too, lots of 50's / 60's covers by (relatively) modern artists.

Day 26 - Letter To An Elder Day - Play something that you think your parents or an older friend would enjoy.

Roy Orbison "Crying" (1962 Monument; 2018 AP reissue)
I once played this for my mother-in-law, who was wondering what the fuss with vinyl was all about. It went over well.

Day 23 - National Banana Bread Day - Play something that you like to play while cooking, or something that mentions food.

Haley Heynderickx - I Need to Start a Garden (signed)

Honeycombs, figs, fruit, pomegranates, olives, and perhaps allusions to others.

Day 24 - Twin Peaks Day - Play a soundtrack from a TV show/movie, or something that relates to Twin Peaks.

Julee Cruise - Floating Into the Night

How has this not been played yet? The tracks "Falling," "Into the Night," and "The Nightingale" are all on the soundtrack.
RIP to both Julee Cruise and David Lynch.

Oof, I’m too far behind….

Let’s do a twofer

Day 11 - National Guitar Day - Play something that has a guitar sound you love.

And

Day 25 - National Billy Day - Play something with someone named Billy in the band.

Because I just saw Billy Duffy live!
They can still kick ass.

The Cult - Love

Ok, another twofer…

Japan is on my bucket list.

Day 12 - Tourism Day - Play a record from a place you'd love to go to, or has an artist in the group that hails from a place you'd love to go to.

And

Day 13 - Galentine's Day - Play a fantastic female artist, preferably in a band with multiple ladies.

The 5. 6. 7. 8’s - S/T

Day 26 - Letter To An Elder Day - Play something that you think your parents or an older friend would enjoy.

Sade - Love Deluxe

Sade is the only thing I like after being subjected to the smooth jazz radio station my mom listened to growing up. That includes the literary dildo dorks.

Day 26 - Letter To An Elder Day - Play something that you think your parents or an older friend would enjoy.

Destroyer - Kaputt

When I was spending a lot of time with Mom in her last few months we'd drive places and she would comment that she liked certain music, Tortoise being one of them. I think Destroyer would fit right in to something that would catch her ear.

This is a beautiful sentiment about your mom and I'm just thinking about me complaining about my smooth jazz loving mom who would also like Destroyer's schtick.

Day 28 - National Pancake Day - I know we all own multiple records from many artists. Pick one artist and stack those bad boys up and play them all day.

Herbie Hancock

Herbie is one of my favorite artists of all time. And I intend to eventually own every album in his discography. Praying for a Dis is da Drum vinyl release some day 🙏🏼

There is no way I will get through all of these today, but I’m starting out with Crossings and we’ll see where it goes from there.
