February 2025 Spin Challenge

Day 26 - Letter To An Elder Day - Play something that you think your parents or an older friend would enjoy.

This one goes out to my mom, who is recovering from back surgery she had this morning. I found this particular record at a thrift shop here in San Diego a number of years ago, and am convinced its the same copy we had growing up and it somehow found its way back home as the handwriting of our last name on the cover matches my moms writing style.

Day 23 - National Banana Bread Day - Play something that you like to play while cooking, or something that mentions food.

I really don't listen to music while cooking as I have no way to really play it other than on my phone, and I hate listening to music through my phone's speaker. I also have no bluetooth speakers...not a fan.

As most people, I didn't know of Ben Howard or his song "Oats in the Water" until was on an episode of The Walking Dead. Those early few seasons actually had some decent music added - I remember when they used Clutch's "The Regulator" at the end of season 2 episode 8.

Play a soundtrack from a TV show/movie, or something that relates to Twin Peaks.

Polaris - Music From The Adventures of Pete & Pete
View attachment 227796
From one surreal 90s classic television soundtrack to another.

I didn’t realize this spin would be sadly eulogistic.

Day 25 - National Billy Day - Play something with someone named Billy in the band

Jimi Hendrix "Band of Gypsys"
Features Billy Cox on bass and at $8.98 how could I have said no? Probably my favorite Hendrix album mainly because of Machine Gun although the whole record is killer!

Fleetwood Mac - Tusk

I actually just got home from hanging out with my mom and sister. Once a month we get together for dinner and board games. I told her to select some music to stream while we played and she picked Fleetwood Mac. So this goes out to her.

The Weakerthans "Reunion Tour"
Features the song Tournament of Hearts which is a song about curling, my parents love(d) curling which I think would make this song a good jumping off point to the wonders of The Weakerthans! They sing about a cat, my mom loves cats and they hate Winnipeg and probably for a good enough reason for everyone to hate Winnipeg! My parents are not really into music and I thought it would be cheating to play something an older friend would enjoy because my older friends are older than me by months and mostly have at least some similar music tastes!
