February 2025 Spin Challenge

Day 17 - National Random Acts Of Kindness Day - Play something by an artist that has proven they think of others.

Chance the Rapper - Acid Rap

From a quick Google search:

Chance the Rapper's philanthropy focuses on Chicago's youth, education, and mental health. He's involved with many charitable organizations and initiatives, including his own nonprofit, SocialWorks.

Day 22 - National California Day - Play something that makes you think of Denmark's future acquisition. 😁

Since GNX was stolen from me....

I don't listen to this pressing from the Box Set all that often, but it's not that bad. Wasn't too thrilled to see who cut it and where it was pressed.

Day 18 - National Drink Wine Day - Grab a drink and play a record that mentions an adult beverage (or favorite N/A drink).

Boldy James & The Alchemist – The Price Of Tea In China (signed)

I do enjoy the numerous varieties of Asian tea. Now that I have been on Invisalign since last Wednesday, anything carbonated will need to be kept to a minimum for at least a year. Guessing beer is included in that (but not sake (酒), thankfully!). Forgoing nomihoudai (飲み放題; all you can drink) next month 😭

Green tea in restaurants over there is a notch better than the bottled goods but still refreshing all the same.

Day 19 - Tug Of War Day - Play something by someone you or others have a less than favorable opinion of at one point in time.

Mort Garson - Plantasia

I had the VMP edition of this record back when it was reissued in 2019, but it was warped to hell and back (1/2" dish). Shortly after I bought my VinylFlat in 2021, this was one of the first I flattened. I got to a point where it was playable, but still had a slight warp despite attempting three more times. Even afterwards, the sound quality on the reissue seemed compromised and had some distortion issues. It was eventually sold on Discogs for a few dollars more than I paid (even after getting a refund). I also didn't particularly love the music at that time.
However, this 2022 reissue of the 2019 reissue series is a vast improvement. No distortion at all, no other major pressing defects. It has done enough to positively alter my opinion of the music significantly.

Day 20 - Love Your Pet Day - Play something reminding you of a pet you've had.

Arthur Russell - Picture of Bunny Rabbit

I had a rabbit from when I was in grade school (grade 5-12). I don't have any photos of him; he passed away in 2010 while I was away visiting my mother on winter break in senior year of high school. I don't have any photos, I was kinda mean to him. His name was Snowflake. Looked like this:

Since it was one of your posts that introduced me to this, how about this one?

Absolutely.

Day 21 - No One Eats Alone Day - Have a fellow member pick a record for you to play, or play something you know another member loves.

A.A. Williams - As the Moon Rests (signed)

She was great to see live last year, four years after I discovered her from Forever Blue. This progression towards a doomgaze sound is what I was hoping for.
I didn't include As the Moon Rests in my top50 come year-end, but I would rectify that now.

Play something that makes you think of Denmark's future acquisition.

The Beach Boys - Holland

I know, on “California Day” I chose the one Beach Boys album they recorded in (and got it’s name from) a region in Europe but this albums is very Californian thematically, most of side A is dedicated to a three song musical suite, “The California Saga”.
