Vintage Equipment

My vintage system. Marantz 2235b with PSB Century 300i speakers. Some might say it’s bad form to have them in a garage system but at least it gets played often and it keeps the Marantz’s caps formed. Perfect for working on Land Cruisers and the ’55 Merc.

I still have my Marantz 2235B I bought new in 1977. Cut grass all summer and saved my cash to buy it. What a great piece.

I'm so attracted to all this Marantz gear from the 70s!

I managed to never have any Marantz gear in my systems over the years, except for one piece that has perhaps 0.001% of the sex appeal of those classic Marantz receivers: for a couple of years in the 1990s, I owned a Marantz CD-67SE compact disc player.

I mainly remember two things about it - that it sounded very warm and musical (especially compared to the player it replaced, an early generation Technics mid-size player from the late 80s), and that I had mixed feelings when I sold it to a small independent stereo shop. What I don't remember is why I sold it, but I must have needed some cash at the time.

Photo is NOT MINE; just one I grabbed from internet search.

Wow. Where did you get them from?
Yeah. Pretty stoked. I got them from Facebook Marketplace. They were up a while ago and then they disappeared before being put up again recently. Luckily they didn’t show under a regular search for Tannoy as I’m sure they would have gone already.

I got them for less than the asking but I did have to drive out to Tarneit which is about 1:45 each way. The guy I got them from had a crazy listening room but no vinyl. Was all CD and streaming with tube amp, set up in front of a single massage chair with bass traps and baffles all around and a double glazed glass sliding door so he could crank it without spilling over into the house. I‘ve got some inspiration for my room when we get our house up.

Your poor car’s suspension must have taken a kicking in the drive back! Those are probably heavy boys…
