  • Not sure how hot of a take this is, but, for me, the “London Sessions” version of ‘All My Friends’ > the “Sound of Silver” version of ‘All My Friends’.

I love the studio albums but the live albums are where it’s at for me (incl studio live(

Yeah, the SOS version isn’t that far off, for sure. It’s still great. I just feel like the London Sessions version has that little New Order-y guitar lick that works better for me. Maybe it is just buried in the mix on the SOS version. Or maybe they just adopted it for the live setting.
I guess this new Janelle Monae album is technically a LP, but half of the tracks are just little interludes. I like the vibe of the material, but, this feels more like an EP release.
It may be a bit premature, but, for me, “Weathervanes” is certainly giving “Southeastern” a run in terms of being Jason Isbell’s best record. Album of the year for me, at least so far, and it will take a pretty special record to change that.

I can get behind this take. It's definitely his best album with the 400 Unit and a top 2 or 3 Isbell record. I think for a variety of personal reasons it would be nigh impossible for anything to knock Southeastern out of the top spot, but objectively I imagine this one could indeed be a contender.

Starbucks Barista acknowledging my vintage Sub-Pop baseball hat from 1993: “Cool hat. Are they still around?” All I could muster was a heavy sigh, and an affirmative nod.
Last weekend I went on a bit of a binge at Waterloo Records. Picked up some classic jazz albums that I’ve been wanting. Trying to start building up that part of my collection. Also grabbed a budget greatest hits from Divinyls on CD. Not sure how I’ve slept on their non-‘I Touch Myself’ material all these years, but there are some great tracks on this collection.
Kind of blown away by this latest Dylan release.

Just really impressed by how good he sounds on this recording. Gonna be super bummed if we learn down the road that this is some kind of AI Dylan shenanigans. Production is fantastic on this, and the relaxed accompaniment suits these arrangements really well.

Did you not watch/hear it when it first aired in the summer of 2021? It's definitely a real band.

@BjorgenFjorgen I was joking a bit there. I was going through a rough period when that originally streamed, so I didn’t catch it.
I know we’re only technically through 5 months of 2023, and 6/9 alone is going to be a banner day for new releases, but, I’m definitely behind last year’s pace for new albums that are end of year best-of list worthy.
Catching up on all of the tricot releases from the past 4-5 years that I slept on for some reason. They’ve been busy!
I’ve seen Jason Isbell 3 times now, and tonight’s show was the best of them all. Not to say the others weren’t great, but he and his band were just operating on a different level tonight. Perfect set list & amazing opener.

I don't have previous times seeing him to compare to, but I agree about he and the band operating on different level - when I saw them a couple months back they were light years head of what I expected (and what I expected was a damn good show!)

Aside from Prince and Blue Öyster Cult, I've definitely listened to and watched more concert recordings of Isbell and band than any other artists

Seeing Jason Isbell tomorrow, and Amythyst Kiah is opening. Just listened to her cover of ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’, and, wow! How have I not heard about her?!? She’s amazing!

I've only been ranting and raving about her since her debut album Wary + Strange dropped in 2021!

Apparently, a critter of some kind decided to crawl into the inner workings of my car and die. RIP to the new car smell that I still had 16 months after getting it. Yeah, it has been that kind of week.
“Moonage Daydream” is not exactly what I was expecting. Went in blind on this one. I guess this is pretty much how a Bowie doc should be stylistically. Certainly different.

The footage is indeed fantastic. Love the Berlin footage in particular. And I do love hearing Bowie’s thoughts via the archival interview bits. It certainly breaks the traditional rock doc mold, which is cool. Feels very stream of conscious, which is maybe what is throwing me off a bit.

Saw it at an IMAX. Centre seat so the sound was absolutely amazing and screen filled my field of vision. Loved it but it was definitely not a documentary. One review called it the most expensive piece of fan art and I totally agree.
