I’ve seen Jason Isbell 3 times now, and tonight’s show was the best of them all. Not to say the others weren’t great, but he and his band were just operating on a different level tonight. Perfect set list & amazing opener.
Seeing Jason Isbell tomorrow, and Amythyst Kiah is opening. Just listened to her cover of ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’, and, wow! How have I not heard about her?!? She’s amazing!
Apparently, a critter of some kind decided to crawl into the inner workings of my car and die. RIP to the new car smell that I still had 16 months after getting it. Yeah, it has been that kind of week.
“Moonage Daydream” is not exactly what I was expecting. Went in blind on this one. I guess this is pretty much how a Bowie doc should be stylistically. Certainly different.
Willie Weekend started this morning on KUTX in celebration of Willie turning 90 tomorrow. Stream at kutx.org if you’re outside of the Austin City Limits.
It doesn’t always play out this way, but I love it when, after years of trying to connect with an artist’s work, things finally, and unexpectedly, click.
Really enjoyed that Jason Isbell doc on HBO/HBO Max. Felt like a pretty unflinching look at his story and artistic process. I had a feeling it would be solid since Sam Jones directed it. His interview with Jason from several years back was also so revealing and well done.
Yep Roc Records has a pre-sale for reissues of the first two Grant Lee Buffalo albums for those interested. I’ll be glad to get a non-Plain Recordings version of “Mighty Joe Moon” in my collection.
The March issue of Mojo finally hit the newsstand at the B&N near me. The latest Dylan Bootleg Series installment is the cover story, and the accompanying CD for the issue is outstanding.
Wasn’t expecting another boygenius pre-release single. I think all the songs are really great, but they’ve now shared 1/3 of the album prior to release.
Finally watched “Elvis” last night. I guess I’m just really not a fan of Luhrmann’s style of direction. Also think telling the story from Col. Parker’s pov was a terrible decision. The first half was particularly brutal to sit through.
Just so we’re clear and there’s no confusion, Ticketmaster is the absolute f’ing worst and it should absolutely be destroyed for committing crimes against humanity. That said, Happy Friday everyone!
