  • I’ve seen Jason Isbell 3 times now, and tonight’s show was the best of them all. Not to say the others weren’t great, but he and his band were just operating on a different level tonight. Perfect set list & amazing opener.

I don't have previous times seeing him to compare to, but I agree about he and the band operating on different level - when I saw them a couple months back they were light years head of what I expected (and what I expected was a damn good show!)

Aside from Prince and Blue Öyster Cult, I've definitely listened to and watched more concert recordings of Isbell and band than any other artists

Seeing Jason Isbell tomorrow, and Amythyst Kiah is opening. Just listened to her cover of ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’, and, wow! How have I not heard about her?!? She’s amazing!

I've only been ranting and raving about her since her debut album Wary + Strange dropped in 2021!

Apparently, a critter of some kind decided to crawl into the inner workings of my car and die. RIP to the new car smell that I still had 16 months after getting it. Yeah, it has been that kind of week.
“Moonage Daydream” is not exactly what I was expecting. Went in blind on this one. I guess this is pretty much how a Bowie doc should be stylistically. Certainly different.

The footage is indeed fantastic. Love the Berlin footage in particular. And I do love hearing Bowie’s thoughts via the archival interview bits. It certainly breaks the traditional rock doc mold, which is cool. Feels very stream of conscious, which is maybe what is throwing me off a bit.

Saw it at an IMAX. Centre seat so the sound was absolutely amazing and screen filled my field of vision. Loved it but it was definitely not a documentary. One review called it the most expensive piece of fan art and I totally agree.

I hated it so much and I had to fight off sleep the whole time seeing it in the theatre lol

Teaser for the new PJ Harvey single due out on 4/26 sounds dark and drone-y. Granted, you can’t read too much from a 14 second clip.

I’m hoping she will hit it out of the park with this one. I was disappointed by The Piano and Hope Six, but sandwiched between them was Let England Shake which is one of my favorite albums ever. Let’s go!

I liked the Hope Six songs better live, but I’ve also got my fingers crossed for this new one to be another classic.

Pre-order for the new album is now available on her site. Album title is super awkward. The back cover photo is pretty great. Guess we’ll find out tomorrow what that first single sounds like.
Ahhh…RSD+1, where I play vulture and pick over any RSD remains at my local shops.

I swung by this morning to see what was left. Slim pickings indeed. Picked up a Sonics and Steve Fobert record instead.

Went late this afternoon and got the Nuggets 50th Anniversary box, the Chet Baker "Chet" mono release, and the Jason Isbell/Amanda Shires EP deal. Waterloo still had some of the Taylor Swift Folklore on the shelves. I was somewhat surprised by that, but, whatever.

I also grabbed another super old back issue of Pop Culture Press. I've started doing that whenever I go there. Kind of cool to revisit those. This one is from 2008, and has Nick Cave on the cover. I previously picked up an even older one that had Supergrass on the cover, circa "In It For The Money".
Really enjoyed that Jason Isbell doc on HBO/HBO Max. Felt like a pretty unflinching look at his story and artistic process. I had a feeling it would be solid since Sam Jones directed it. His interview with Jason from several years back was also so revealing and well done.
Someday my boygenius album will come.

Ordered through their site. Reached out for an update, and they basically were overwhelmed. They said they hope to have the pre-orders out by the end of the week. I get it, but it is frustrating when a pre-order arrives more than a week or so after the actual release. I could have snagged a copy at Waterloo on Saturday.

Yep Roc Records has a pre-sale for reissues of the first two Grant Lee Buffalo albums for those interested. I’ll be glad to get a non-Plain Recordings version of “Mighty Joe Moon” in my collection.

I was lucky enough to get an OG Mighty Joe Moon a while back at a semi decent price. Also got the Mockingbirds 12 inch. I’m interested in Fuzzy though to see if they use the original mixes. I have the MOV version and The Shining Hour is extended and Fuzzy is completely different version.

Also these give me hope that Copperopolis and Jubilee will be coming.

@Lacubrious I have the MOV version of “Fuzzy”, and agree with you, that I hope they use the original mixes. Didn’t see confirmation anywhere on that though. Kills me that I had original pressings of both back in the 90s and sold them at some point before I got back into collecting vinyl.

@Lacubrious On a whim I decided to reach out to Yep Roc regarding the version of “Fuzzy” that was being released. Their response: “The newly reissued “Fuzzy” is true to the original release on Slash.”
The March issue of Mojo finally hit the newsstand at the B&N near me. The latest Dylan Bootleg Series installment is the cover story, and the accompanying CD for the issue is outstanding.
Wasn’t expecting another boygenius pre-release single. I think all the songs are really great, but they’ve now shared 1/3 of the album prior to release.
Finally watched “Elvis” last night. I guess I’m just really not a fan of Luhrmann’s style of direction. Also think telling the story from Col. Parker’s pov was a terrible decision. The first half was particularly brutal to sit through.
