Summer of Soul!!! What a film man, that gospel section with Mavis and Mahalia had me balling like a baby, so much beauty, pain, and power contained within. One of the most moving things I’ve seen in a long time
Just released my first podcast episode since before COVID. Join me as I talk to Adriana McCassim, an LA based indie-rock singer/songwriter that has been compared to a young Sharon Van Etten, by SVE herself. Had an absolute blast, she was a great guest and her music is even better! Check it out
Either these Joni Mitchell pressings are really crappy, or my stylus is jacked, terrible IGD and persistent surface noise on side 2 of Song to a Seagull.
Just saw someone call dibs on a 1964 Muddy Water's "Folk Singer" in VG condition for $240 dollars... mans is going to cry when he learns you can grab a 33RPM from AP for like $35. I'm going to let the record store take this win though.
New Broken Record podcast with Archie Shepp. This podcast is so hit or miss to me, the guy interviewing Archie feels so luke warm its amazing, like he's running down a list of questions and responding with the bare amount of enthusiasm meanwhile Archie is sharing wonderful stories :c
I moved my turntable yesterday, switched places with where the amp was sitting and noticed my records sounded HORRIBLE following, I thought something was wrong with my stylus. Took a long time to realize it wasn’t perfectly leveled, even though it was on the same surface lol, made all the difference :/
Just bought tickets for the Hollywood Bowl to go see Yo-Yo Ma early September followed by James Blake on the 25th and Herbie Hancock on the 26th, had to fight myself to grab tickets for Kamasi Washington as well . Can September hurry up?
UPS has the most tormenting shipment tracking updates. Which means, they have the absolute bare minimum and it never gives me the kick of dopamine I’m looking for. My NAD C16BEE has just been “On the way” for a week now with no update
Frank Sinatra <3. I don't listen to him much these days but his music really served as a catalyst for my musical journey. Would've paid a fortune to be there at the Sands when he performed his famous concert.
Can you believe I mentioned in two different zoom meetings at work today that I re-watched John Carpenter's The Thing last night, and not ONE PERSON had seen it. I was expecting a bunch of whoops but instead I got nothing but blank stares. I guess this is the reality of the Millennial/Gen Z work place now
Received 5 record packages today, 2 of them were new records, 3 of them were replacements, only 1 record (Quiet Kenny) isn’t going to need a(nother) round of replacements. THIS CLOSE TO BECOMING ONE OF THOSE DUDES THAT JUST BUYS AP PRESSINGS. I’m so exhausted, isn’t this hobby supposed to be fun :/?
I've spent damn near $2000 on buying coffee this past year. Finally did the wise thing and bought my first espresso machine so I could of course spend those yearly savings on more records. Anyone home espresso fanatics?
Also I started a thread in General for us to document our favorite KEXP, TinyDesk, and other live video performances. Head on over and share what’s been capturing you!
Will be interviewing my first podcast guest in over a year next weekend! Hoping to really make these interviews consistent this year and beyond, this is my life’s work and it’s waiting for me to take it seriously. Anyways, check out Adriana McCassim before hand, she’s incredible!
