The Official Needles and Grooves 1001 Album Generator Project (aka Preachin’ about the Preachers if today’s selection sucks)

Trying out this Freshcogs app. I've been using Discographic to scrobble my vinyl but I like the random feature of freshcogs. I also like the idea of logging listens in the app to try to find the things that I listen to the least--- only issue is that it says I have 0 listens even though I have scrobbled several albums from the app. Anyone run into this issue?

On the user page?

So I listened to Deep Purple while making breakfast this morning. Yeah, nothing offensive but nothing that makes me want to listen to it again. They still kind of just seen like the metal version of the dead but also kind of sleepy time.

Madonna - Ray of Light

Absolutely fantastic album that continues her impeccable early discography run. I do agree with you guys that this isn’t as adventurous or out there for her as critics make it out to be. It’s an incredibly interesting album, perfectly produced and damn good, but my money is on Erotica as her best and most daring album of the 90s. I respect the hell out of it but when ranking her discography I don’t put it as high as many critics would. That all being said it’s still a 4.5/5

It’s fine. Very good. Like @Fleetwood-Matt said, immaculately produced. She doesn’t really falter in my opinion until American Life which I don’t think works really well. If I want to listen to Madonna doing electronic dance music, I’m gonna reach for Music or Confessions before this. Most of the time, I’m gonna reach for her first four albums. (Honestly, her debut more often than not)

Her 80s output is easily my favorite, “True Blue” being my favorite album of the 80s that’s usually the one I reach for and then Virgin and ST would be the next two likely. I do really enjoy her 90s output as well but this album is the last one by her I really like. I have yet to be able to get into Music or Confessions and everything else has been pretty bad. Nearly 20 years and 7 great albums in a row is an incredible feat and I feel she often doesn’t get the respect she deserves critically. Yeah she has a lot of bad albums but anyone whose been making music for 4 decades has a bunch of bad albums also lol

I didn’t really stop paying attention until MDNA. I have not listened to the two after that, which I should probably do.

Her stature is an interesting thing. She was absolutely mad respected in the 80s and 90s. I think the string of bad albums starting with Hard Candy and her tragic acting career not to mention her antics have just sullied the reputation she had. We are also 30 years removed from her prime.

God I’m old.

Madonna - Ray of Light

I remember this album kind of being a big deal when it came out and I definitely remember the "Ray of Light" music video getting a lot of play on MTV. I was fully entrenched in Nu Metal and pop punk at the time.

I gotta say, I'm a little disappointed after one listen. It's a little more mellow than I was expecting and it sounds a little dated. I liked the 80's Madonna album we had earlier much better.
