Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

Allowing someone who lives in a different country to continue to get a free membership when you no longer ship to that country for paying members feels on brand for the way the company was going.
That was at least my understanding of the situation. Seemed like he was getting one free record still each month. Or maybe he paid just shipping or something. Not sure of the specifics.

So far, my test pressings that I paid actual money for shipped, along with TBT stuff from Feb and March. No movement on TPs that I used all credit on. No movement on test pressings paid for all with credit. No movement on dead anthology that was part credit part real money.

I used credit for some of my shipped TP order. But that totally could be a thing

Edit: is apparently totally a thing. Ffs

UPDATE:

I heard today that everyone was let go, except Matt and one other. Storf was let go at the same time Paul was.

You don't have a 'going concern' with two employees. Particularly when one is the CEO - the most useless employee at this point. VMP is no longer a going concern.

Right now, VMP is what, in business terms, we call a zombie corporation. It still exists as it still has assets - inventory being the major one - but it has liabilities that exceed assets by far and little to no cash, except what trickles in as they sell off inventory.

If they are still giving refunds, good on them. That's trying to do the right thing for as long as possible. They won't be able to do it in perpetuity.

They still have reason to ship records that are in stock. They will not want to be taking money and not fulfilling - that is mail fraud. Things paid with store credit they could stall on.

I believe that some things might still appear. Forget the 'Production Calendar', no one is there to update it anymore. There will be a few things pressed that will get released by the pressing plant when there is cash to pay the C.O.D., things that show as not having an updated ship month are never going to make it into production. If it says 'waiting to schedule with label' it's not gonna happen. This business overall now only exists to liqudate stock. It is more fiscally beneficial to find a way to complete as many projects that are partially complete, but with two employees, not feasable to start any new ones even if they had the funding.

The big question is the Coltrane box. The lacquers were cut almost a year ago. I understand the packaging is all done, I am guessing that if they can get enough cash to pay RTI it still might get pressed.

To those waiting for pre-orders - check the production schedule. If no USM, or it states 'waiting to schedule with label' - try for a refund asap. There is no point in waiting.

For most titles pre-orders have been disabled. That's a sure sign.

If you are waiting for shipping of stuff you bought that is in stock, I believe it will happen. That stock exists.

If you have store credit, it will eventually become worthless, and that may be sooner than we think. Use it or lose it, and hope for the best.

They still seem to be getting some 'store exclusives' which are just a colored variant produced by whatever pressing plant did the wide distribution variants. I suspect that is only because VMP contracted with the label to add a color variant to their press run, and the label invoices VMP for it - not the pressing plant.

Don't expect much in terms of customer service, and whatever part-timer they have replying at this point, likely has no knowledge.

Two employees is fine to pass orders on to the warehouse for fulfillment, maybe to triage pressing plant payments and shipping and packaging, but little else.

And, BTW, MikeH is right.

I imagine getting a refund for the def jam box or for membership paid up front/swap to credits will be close to impossible. At this point I'm just going to wait for the inevitable call to amex

Got a shipping notification for the in stock sale. I didn't use credit so hopefully a handful of people get their shit because of it. Not hopeful for the "ROTM" but I'll chargeback or just call it a $40 dollar loss, I honestly don't even care if I'm out the $40.

Given how quickly they're seemingly falling apart I genuinely can't believe I actually got my Grateful Dead Box. Fortunately I cancelled all of my other preorders months ago so I have nothing I'm waiting on.

I bought my turntable in mid 2018 and started up a VMP subscription shortly after and have been with them basically ever since. I kinda don't know what it's like to collect records without VMP. They definitely opened up my musical tastes and I have a bunch of records I had never heard of or wouldn't ever check out because of them. I even quoted a Jim Sullivan song in my father in laws eulogy last week that I would have never ever known about without VMP. Can't say I'll be "lost" without them, but I really enjoyed their record club while it lasted, especially in the better days.
