August '22 - N&G VINYL SPINS CHALLENGE - Don’t tell @MikeH

5. Friday I’m In Love

I think that song is just unbridled joy recorded. It makes me smile.

This guy right here. Number 1 - his music is joyful. 2. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone have as much fun on stage. 3. Most of his songs are about love.

Rudy De Anda - Tender Epoch

@Turbo. I wonder if I could do a whole challenge with just Colemine.

Haha... I bet you could!

Also, love that Rudy De Andy record. I should get that back to the table again soon.

4. Three Little Birds

Horace Andy "In The Light" (1977 Hungry Town; 1995 Blood & Fire reissue)
Spinning a pretty great dub reggae record by an artist I haven't heard mentioned much. Horace Andy may appeal to fans of Massive Attack, both for his dubby sound reminiscent of their music (even for a record originally recorded in 1977) and for the fact that Horace Andy was a guest vocalist on Blue Lines, Protection and Mezzanine.

5. Friday I'm In Love

-M- "Je Dis Aime"
(1999 Delabel; 2000 Parlophone reissue)
-M- does a French cover of "Close To Me" on this album, and it's pretty great. Although he has a style all his own, you can hear Robert Smith's influence in Matthieu Chedid's work. Especially in the vocal delivery. If you're interested, after the Cure cover, check out "Onde Sensuelle", "Je Dis Aime" off this album, "Qui De Nous Deux", "La Bonne Etoile" off Qui De Nous Deux and "Matchistador" off Le Baptême.

Day 5: Friday I’m in Love

Beck - Colors

I can’t speak for Wish as a whole (since I’ve yet to do a real dive into the Cure’s work outside of Disintegration), but “Friday I’m in Love” sounds more upbeat & lighthearted than what immediately came before it, similar to this Beck album.

The Postal Service - Give Up

I’ve always been a huge fan of over gushy love songs that boarder on saccharine. “Friday I’m In Love” (especially Smith’s vocal performance) really nails that feeling of exploding with love that I love so much. Ben Gibbard may be the master of it for me. Songs like “Such Great Heights” and “Clark Gable” are sugar cubes of love that I can’t get enough of!

Day 5 - Friday I’m in love

I struggled to decide what to play for this one. The first thing that popped into my head was One Week by Barenaked Ladies, but I don't have it and didn't want to hear it. Likewise, most of the ideas I had I don't have on wax... Except for one. And I played it earlier tonight then thought I'd think of something better, but I haven't. So...

Static-X - Wisconsin Death Trip
Specifically for Love Dump. I can't believe this got played on the radio. Good times.

Day 6 - Gotta Get Up

Paramore - After Laughter

“Gotta Get Up” was introduced to a whole new audience (including me) through the show “Russian Doll”. I decided to go with a mother song used in a time loop story! “Hard Times” was featured in the horror comedy time loop movie “Happy Death Day 2U”! Although it’s not as good as the first movie, it’s still a good time with an awesome soundtrack!

Here’s the scene big TRIGGER WARNING for suicide and blood
