I can’t even watch local games anymore without paying an extra $15 a month for the cable sports package since all Mariners games are on Root Sports.
Baseball Tonight was the best in the early 2000's. A nightly hour long show with highlights and commentary. There's still nothing like it right now. MLB Network has a separate highlight show and commentary show. Nothing that combines them all into one. With ESPN deciding the t would rather be the Stephen A Smith/Pat McCaffy network as opposed to covering the MLB. The MLB Network has become more and more essential.
I have YouTube TV which is why I need the extra MLB Network package. It has NBC Sports Philly so I get Phillies games. Weirdly, 76ers games are blacked out on there which is a whole other sore subject of frustration and workarounds for me but at least it makes baseball season easy.I can’t even watch local games anymore without paying an extra $15 a month for the cable sports package since all Mariners games are on Root Sports.
I pay for the MLB Package every year ($150/yr.) I put game on my ipad while my wife watches TV and I can flip to matchups that I want to watch when the Mets are getting blown out.I have to decide today if I want to pay $100 for the entire season of the new Rangers channel that I can watch on Apple TV. There are only 16 games that will be on OTA this season and I think 4 games that will be on Apple+ Friday Night Baseball (already have an Apple TV sub).
I think I need to do the same, and was wondering the same. Gonna give it a shot. Can anyone with a Free T-Mobile subscription confirm if it includes the live Stream of MLB Network? I'm currently paying The $6 a month for it but would gladly cancel that if I don't need to. They seemed to have removed the verbiage that says it's only included with a "paid" subscription.
Those Apple broadcasts are brutal. Those go on mute with some music playing every time.I have to decide today if I want to pay $100 for the entire season of the new Rangers channel that I can watch on Apple TV. I'm guessing I'll get screwed out of those without having cable. I think we're blocked down here on MLB.tv in PDX.I can’t even watch local games anymore without paying an extra $15 a month for the cable sports package since all Mariners games are on Root Sports.
Regional blackouts is the dumbest thing they could do. Making it harder for baseball fans to watch baseball is such a self own. At least a lot of these regional sports networks are dying off hopefully the Mariners will end up like The Kraken and just airing most of the games over the air.I'm guessing I'll get screwed out of those without having cable. MLB has been terrible at making games/highlights available to promote the game. I'm curious what they will do with ending that contract with ESPN after this year.Regional blackouts is the dumbest thing they could do. The nice thing about the Apple broadcasts is that you select your home team's radio broadcast as the audio. Those Apple broadcasts are brutal. Those go on mute with some music playing every time.
I don't agree with them, but I can kind of understand regional blackouts. What grids my gears is when teams take it a bit further and they still have "In Market" blackouts where you can be in a team's market and unless you have a certain service (usually cable) you're still blacked out from a team's games on the RSN. And you can't a service like MLB TV because you're still "In Market". I'm not 100% if MLB has these but the NHL and NBA definitely do.Regional blackouts is the dumbest thing they could do. Totally, that does help. The nice thing about the Apple broadcasts is that you select your home team's radio broadcast as the audio.
That's how it is in Portland for the Mariners games. I can't watch on MLB.tv, but need to get some sort of cable (Comcast, youtubetv).I don't agree with them, but I can kind of understand regional blackouts. As I mentioned above with the Sixers... I have YouTube TV which has NBC Sports Philly and 76ers games are still blacked out even though Flyers and Phillies play fine. Peacock just added a NBC Sports Philly add on through Peacock so I thought this was the solution to my problem so I subscribed and the freaking 76ers games were STILL blacked out even though I was basically buying the channel direct. Apparently there's list of zip codes a mile long for "In Market Blackouts" for the 76ers. Xfinity is literally the only way to watch them. How you can simultaneously be "In Market" but also Blacked Out is insanity to me. Ok....rant over. That's how it is in Portland for the Mariners games. Ahhh, wasn't picking up what you were laying down. Yeah, that's ridiculous. As I mentioned above with the Sixers... Luckily, I'm not missing much these last few weeks of the Sixers season lol (Even though I'm actually going to the game Saturday and won't see a single starter). But I've just started sailing the seven seas for Sixers games now.Ahhh, wasn't picking up what you were laying down. Yeah, that's ridiculous.
I think if the MLB wanted to maximize $$$ while also maximizing eyeballs what they would do is is show all games on over the air broadcast in local markets and then also offer an unrestricted streaming option where a fan can sign up to just watch their teams broadcast online/streaming anywhere without restrictions. As I mentioned above with the Sixers... Sometimes are offering an In-Market add on to MLB.TV so you can watch both out of market and in-market games. But of course that comes at a premium money wise. Helps with the $$$ but not the eyeballs.I think if the MLB wanted to maximize $$$ while also maximizing eyeballs what they would do is is show all games on over the air broadcast in local markets and then also offer an unrestricted streaming option where a fan can sign up to just watch their teams broadcast online/streaming anywhere without restrictions.
