Best Music šŸŽ¶ of 2024!

@Wes C. Attle thoughts on the DIIV album compared to their other ones? I really like it but I think it's their least good. However, they've never put out anything I'd call a bad album. It's a solid 8.5/10 for me.

Thatā€™s a good question! Iā€™ve always been a fan of them since Oshin but thereā€™s something particularly special about this one. It just feels more consistent through the whole record to me and it came out when I had more time to absorb it, so that helps too.

It definitely grew on me with more time. It does feel like a complete album with a few standout tracks. Had it been released a couple of weeks ago I donā€™t know what Iā€™d have thought of it. Iā€™m a huge Deceiver fan Oshin is probably my #2 but I didnā€™t really get super into them until 2015~ with the ITIA

Finally got around to listening to Diamond Jubilee by Cindy Lee. Not that bad of an album. It's very long and probably could be culled a bit to be a bit more concise. It would probably welcome more listens if it was shorter. I will likely not listen to it again because it's not on Spotify and because it's super long. I like the production, very vibey--some tunes sound like early Khruangbin meets early Mac Demarco. I don't think it's deserving of all the acclaim I've seen for it since it's not doing anything totally groundbreaking, but it's still good.

I love it. Album of the decade so far for me.

The solution is to download a copy to your phone and then just stream it from where it left off last time you got into the car. Thats what I did and though I have only listened to it all the way through in one session a couple times, I have listened to it all the way through multiple times collectively basically itā€™s my go to car soundtrack.

Thatā€™s how Iā€™ve been listening to it as well. Played it once on the bluesound node in its entirety and have since listened to it in chunks in the car. Canā€™t wait for the vinyl though- I think this music will shine in that medium.

I think I am becoming basic because, while I would rearrange some stuff, I see LOTS of my year end titles on these end of year lists so far.
Maybe? Before I hung out with you cats, there would be a handful of things only I knew in my circle but I would look at these lists and be like ā€œwho? What? Glitch-core, the fuck?ā€

Now Iā€™m like well I havenā€™t heard these five albums, I should check them out.

Iā€™m unsure how much of that is due to streaming vs other more traditional methods but a large part is you lot.

I suffered through the YouTube version with ads šŸ˜ a couple of times and then preordered the vinyl from Bandcamp which came with the hi-res download and Iā€™ve been playing that from my phone ever since. Iā€™ve been trying to get my friends to check out the album but nobody wants to listen to their music on YouTube. I canā€™t wait for the vinyl either!

I did not realize it was in Bandcamp, I guess Iā€™ll give it a listen.

Agreed, and I feel like it's important to note that in a lot of cases the artists themselves don't always control how a project will blow up and the kind of impact it will have. I think we see a lot of attempts at forced virality in music these days (*cough*Katy Perry*cough*) that when something really hits and catches on in an organic way you can usually tell the difference. Audiences latched onto brat and started embracing the whole "brat summer" thing not because they were told to but because they wanted to (even though it did eventually get co-opted by the corporate machine, but what doesn't). I think the same thing is happening with GNX right now. Kendrick never told anyone to scream "MUSTAAAAARD" at the top of their lungs but when the quality is there, you don't have to, people will just naturally embrace it.
I knew it was cool when my 13 year old started referencing it. But really, itā€™s funny what we connect on and reminds me of the joke that Ed Sheeran makes music that both mom and daughter can enjoy on their way to volleyball practice. Charli makes music that both odd ball ex-punk/art pop music mom and proto-goth kawaii artsy daughter can listen to on their way to get boba and craft supplies.

Honestly, Iā€™m just here to read @Rip_Cityā€™s list and tell me how awesome the KLO album is.
