Ok,
@wokeupnew I saw Haley Heynderickx last night, and as a direct quote from her mouth: "The new album is done"!!!! I was tempted to shout out, "when is it coming out?" but the venue wasn't a 'shout things out' kinda vibe. This is so exciting. She again referenced the long delay (6 years) between albums, and discussed her own anxiety and obsessiveness issues with the finality of recording songs, and the urge to make it perfect. In this very context she played a new song which was a song of gratitude to her good friend who helped her get to the finish line and complete the album recoding process.
Last night she was solo, since the previous band she had been touring with had a gig elsewhere. So everything was very pared down. Anyway, she played 3 tracks from "I Need to Start a Garden," two covers, and 7-8 new tracks. As usual, she was outstanding. I brought a couple friends, so everything was new to them, and they were absolutely blown away by her voice and effortlessly beautiful - and complex - guitar playing.
There were a couple of standouts from the new tracks, one about relocating the Red Food Forest, and another called Swoop, loosely about her mom, and the notion of emigrating the US.
I can't wait for this new album. I've been lucky enough to see her four times now, and I'll see her every time she's close by; just a mesmerizing and unique artist.
And yes ā¦ her between song banter was on point. I'd relay a couple of her hilarious quips, but don't want to ruin it for anyone lucky enough to see her soon.
