This was a generous PIF from our host @Hemotep . I just cracked open the shrink and now understand why the box was so damaged in shipping, turns out The Warehouse forgot to pack a disc. Disc one was MIA. Obvously, not an issue given the price tag, plus 4/5th of a prime DMB show is still one hell of a good time.

If I recall correctly Walmart (a fairly conservative company) preferred a shaved pubis to a hairy bush and I don’t mean W. and Jeb’s other brother.

Damn! I had no idea. It literally fell off the truck though. It was in a box with a couple other sets and it arrived two months after they said it was lost and it was in a mud soaked box. It had a note from Fed ex saying that they just found it like that and decided to deliver it.

It took me a minute to figure it out as it was sealed and the there wasn’t a huge gap in the slipcase that would have made it obvious. The four sleeves that were present seemed like it fit pretty well. Initially I just thought I was overlooking it. I kept flipping through the 4 discs looking for disc 1. Finally I checked online and realized what had happened and their was supposed to be a 5th disc.

It’s nothing to worry about, I just thought it was interesting.

10-Oct On this day in 1960. A silly novelty song called "Mr. Custer" by Larry Verne was the top tune on Billboard's Hot 100. The record told a story about a US cavalry trooper who tries to talk his way out of fighting the Sioux Indians at Little Big Horn in 1876. The song reached #9 on the R&B chart, and although Verne's rendition failed to chart at all in the UK, a cover version by Charlie Drake was successful. Expert: Play a novelty album that charted.

This was a novelty record but the fact the band totally invested in the concept, stuck to the formula brilliantly and could actually play their ass off made it an incredible ride. Hit #116 on the Billboard Hot 200. Saw these guys in a small club in 1990 and it was a fuckin' blast...

Buckner & Garcia - Pac-Man Fever

I had to pull this one off the wall where it hangs framed in my SO’s craft room but it’s the only Novelty album that I own that charted (“Pac-Man Fever” reached #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1982).

This was one of the first two cassettes I ever bought with my own money. The other being Survivor - Eye of the Tiger. Bought them at the Record Bar in Jacksonville NC. I brought my copy of this and my dad’s portable tape player to show and tell in the fourth grade.

Why I still have this I have no idea. Maybe so I can play it on random challenges every few years.

And thanks to Youtuber "DiscoLarry124" (which implies there are at least 123 other Disco Larry's) for preserving this magical performance:
