Day 22 - Abroad
Play something from outside your home country

Think if Pete Townshend had actually been Alex Chilton and he turned The Who into Big Star.

Saw these guys as an opener for Soundgarden in 1994. Wow. Been a fan ever since. Literally every song had a memorable riff or hook that found it's way into my brain.

Aussie Aussie Aussie, Oi Oi Oi!

You Am I - Sound As Ever

Finally looped back around to listen to this; beautiful song. Methinks I have a new rabbithole to visit.
What’s great about that song in particular is that It’s a cover of song by Swedish electronic pop duo The Knife…

Both are AMAZING but for different reasons.

Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit – Georgia Blue

I'd originally planned to go further abroad than just south of the border but really wanted to listen to this, so here we are! And while Georgia may not be home, that southern hospitality sure made my visit there very comfortable eight years ago!

Day 21 - One-Hit Wonder
Play something lesser-known from someone mostly known as a one-hit wonder to celebrate Gangnam Style becoming the first YouTube video to hit 1 billion streams on this day 9 years ago

Not sure if everyone considers Men At Work One hit wonders because I think they had a few from this particular album. I know they have a few albums but I don't think they made anything as big as Down Under & Who Can It Be Now?

If you dont agree how about this?

EDIT: You know... I'm sometimes amazed by my lack of ability to read. This is not less known by Men At Work but you know it'll have to do. I don't think i have much else that fits the bill of one hit wonders.

La Femme "Paradigmes" (2021 Disque Pointu)
This gives me the opportunity to spin this month's N&G ROTM, as selected by @sarcasticfairyprincess. The selection prompted me to finally get a copy, having loved my first playthroughs back in the spring. The record itself is a fun blend of styles, ranging from Italo-Disco influences, blaring trumpets, Nick Rhodes synth arps, and 60s French singer-songwriters all the way to Plastic Bertrand new wave, all tied together with a certain flair. "Foutre Le Bordel" such a banger (literal translation of which is "Fuck Up The Brothel", which is said when one want "to raise hell" or "fuck shit up").

Edit:

(LOL, it's restricted because of what the title translates to... you can still watch by following the link)

For themes like this I usually just go with the first that fits via Discogs Random.

Any time XTX pops up makes me happy.

XTC – Oranges & Lemons
Ape House – APELPX109, 1989/2020

Cut by Jason Mitchell at Loud Mastering
