December 2022 Vinyl Spin Challenge: The Intergalactic Mixtape Dance-Off!

Day 19 – My Sweet Lord
My sweet Lord, my Lord, my Lord. I really want to know you. Really want to go with you.
My Sweet Lord is villain Ego The Living Planet’s introduction song in Guardians Vol. 2. Play the song that would introduce you if you were a villain. Optional: what kind of villain would you be?

Portishead - Roseland NYC Live

I think I'd actually be one of those tragic villains with good intentions that becomes a villain step by step without realizing it, but I'm just going to pretend I'd be a stylish, cool badass with a percussion-heavy theme. Let's go with "All Mine" as a kind of evil Bond theme.

Day 16 – The Chain
I can still hear you saying, you would never break the chain (Never break the chain).
Play something related to what you played yesterday and tell us how it’s linked.

Simple connection that I bought both from Colemine, and feeling like some Christmas tunes for this second part.

Ahem, where’d you say you got that Ghost Funk Orchestra record? 😉

Day 21 – Wham Bang Sham-A-Lang
We've got a wham, bam shang-a-lang, and a sha-la-la-la-la-la babe.
Play something with an onomatopoeia.

Switching to streaming albums from my collection as I'll be away from the turntable until January 8.

Art Brut - Bang Bang Rock and Roll

That's a really great record. Need to play that in the car at a loud volume soon!

Day 22 – Surrender
Mommy's alright, Daddy's alright. They just seem a little weird.
Play something you first heard from your parents or a relative *or* play something you introduced your children to.

My uncle introduced me to Genesis and Pink Floyd.

Pink Floyd - The Dark Side of the Moon

Day 18 – Southern Nights
Southern nights, have you ever felt a southern night. Free as a breeze, not to mention the trees.
Play something southern (southern part of a country, southern hemisphere, etc…).

This new repress sounds great, glad I picked it up!

Drivin N' Cryin' - Mystery Road

Well, the Navy Blues box set. Just three LP's of the album, outtakes and demos. I think they've done it for 3 or 4 of the albums. This was the first one I found about while not sold out.

Waiting for Smeared to get the expanded treatment....or at least reissued

Day 22 – Surrender
Mommy's alright, Daddy's alright. They just seem a little weird.
Play something you introduced your child to.

I definitely had to consider Cheap Trick at Budokan today because there's a great story about that record...but I'll go another direction.
My son was 8 when Good News came out, I was playing that CD a ton, along with Ghost is Born and Hail to the Thief...man, 03 and 04 were great music years. Anyway, of those bands Modest Mouse always resonated with him, and he's still a huge fan.

Mommy's alright, Daddy's alright. They just seem a little weird. - Surrender is a jam! Playing something you got introduced to by a parent... easier said than done!

My parents never really played music around the house...my dad liked Elvis but that would get played loudly to mask the arguments so I don't exactly spin that very much or at all...my mom had an old box of 45's these are the ones I took, my sister has the rest... They're beat to shit and rarely get played but I like all 3 of these songs.

I'll have to figure out what works best!
