Day 23 – Father & Son
Look at me, I am old, but I'm happy. - OLD! Like from the 90's or something?

Julie Driscoll and Brian Auger & The Trinity "Open" - from 1968 it's the better of the 2 copies of this record I have! I was gifted the first one and ended up buying this not realizing that it was the exact same record with a different cover because I liked the other one so much! Now WHO sounds old?!?!?

What a video!

Day 22 – Surrender
Mommy's alright, Daddy's alright. They just seem a little weird.
Play something you first heard from your parents or a relative *or* play something you introduced your children to.

The Traveling Wilburys - The Traveling Wilburys, Vol. 1
Song: “Handle With Care”

In the late ‘80s, someone decided to put all of my dad’s favorite musicians into a single group and release this album. In his mind, it could have only been perfected by adding Neil Young. This was released at a time where albums were being predominantly released on CD or cassette and it drove my dad nuts that he couldn’t find a vinyl copy anywhere. He eventually settled for the tape (we didn’t get a CD player until a few years later), which was probably for the best, as this rarely left the cassette deck of our Grand Caravan or the boombox that we took to Lake Chelan. When planning his funeral, they asked what song we wanted to play and this one immediately came to everyone’s mind, but we couldn’t pull the trigger because we felt we wouldn’t be able to keep it together when it came on

Benny Carter - Jazz Giant (1958)

In high school I was into punk and ska bands and my grandfather, whose record collection was exclusively jazz, thought that since I liked music with brass and woodwind instruments, he’d buy me this CD as he felt it was the perfect introduction to expand my musical tastes. Today I think it’s so interesting that he didn’t just buy me Kind of Blue or some other better-known jazz album. I really enjoyed this at the time but didn’t truly venture further into the genre until these past few years. I had forgotten about this album until an old copy was more recently offered by someone as a PIF. I was super excited for it, but it was never received (won’t re-open that one any further). But this newer all-analog pressing sounds fantastic, and I know my grandpa would be super proud to know that I’m listening to it right now. Okay, enough with the sentimental stuff, Christmas really brings it out of me 😂

Duane Eddy - Have Twangy Guitar Will Travel

Back in Illinois in late September I found an exquisite 1959 Mono pressing of Duane Eddy’s breakout album at Recycled Records in Springfield. It’s such a unique album stylistically, it contains elements of Jazz, Country, and Rockabilly/Nascent Rock & Roll. It’s wild to me that an album of instrumental electric guitar record could become a top 5 hit on the Billboard 200 back upon it’s release in 1958. I think this is currently the oldest album in my collection but it’s in better shape than some that are 30 or 40 years newer.

Day 19 – My Sweet Lord
My sweet Lord, my Lord, my Lord. I really want to know you. Really want to go with you.
My Sweet Lord is villain Ego The Living Planet’s introduction song in Guardians Vol. 2. Play the song that would introduce you if you were a villain. Optional: what kind of villain would you be?

I feel like most songs on this record could introduce a villain with a slow build, but I'll go with Sunrise as I enter into the scene. And what a perfect record, in general and on this freezing rain morning.

Day 20 – Come A Little Bit Closer
Then the music stopped, when I looked the café was empty. Then I heard José say "Man, you know you're in trouble plenty".
Press play and restart the music in the café. Play something you’d hear in whatever type of café you’d be in.

Love when a shop plays something new to me, yet familiar. This one is right up that alley. Great record from 2022.

Day 21 – Wham Bang Sham-A-Lang
We've got a wham, bam shang-a-lang, and a sha-la-la-la-la-la babe.
Play something with an onomatopoeia

Clap Hands. This pressing stinks ☹️

Tom Waits - Rain Dogs

What pressing do you have? I was just talking about the original Japanese pressing that I have of this and how I don't like it. Maybe the recording is just bad for this album?

I think it's this one. It's really noisy and poppy.

The album deserves so much better!

I've never listened on vinyl so I can't speak to any pressings, but I'd hope there's gotta be a good one out there somewhere - or it's something that can happen. Would be a damn shame otherwise!
