Day 27 – Hidden Track
You know the game, and we’re gonna play it.
Play something popular that you never tire of hearing.

Dua Lipa - Future Nostalgia

I had this on multiple times a day in the month it came out of pandemic season; it's one of the records I associate closely with that year because of the sudden release due to an unofficial audio leak + COVID-19 outbreak + impending concert cancellations/reschedulings. She's a worldwide popstar that is as popular as can be. Future Nostalgia is an unconditional bop. Three copies on vinyl on different colors and a deluxe CD are in my possession.
Over two and a half years later, I still love it. I'm a still poptart at heart, something that'll never change. I will likely offload two of the LPs next year to make space, though.

Damn, that was one of my top choices for today!

I have quite a few cds with hidden tracks. But I spent along time trying to find a hidden track song that I want to listen to today and is also available to be added to my playlist. I was going to play No Alternative with the hidden Nirvana track, but I wanted to use Kurt and Co. for later this month.

Day 27 – Hidden Track
Play something popular that you never tire of hearing.

Not sure if Joy Division counts as popular, but Ian Curtis is in the pantheon of dead, young rock stars. I have been listening to them for about 40 years now and will never tire of listening to them.

Today's track was selected because it really was featured in the Guardians video game. Whenever there's a fight sequence, the game plays a random song from Peter's collection to use as soundtrack. This one wasn't present in the list as far as I can remember, so it's pretty much a hidden track. But it showed up in a fight all of a sudden about 3/4 of the way into the game. At that point, you've heard all the songs in the collection multiple times, so it's unexpected. So the game actually RR's you... I was laughing pretty hard at that moment. Good fun. It's part of the collection and returns randomly afterwards.

Day 24 – Flash Light
You're getting me, getting me through the night. 'Cause you're my flashlight (flashlight). You're my flashlight (flashlight). You're my flashlight.
Play something festive!

Christmas and the last day of Hanukkah were on the same day, and Kwanzaa started on the 26th. So really it's just One Big Holiday.

Day 26 – Everybody Have Fun Tonight
Everybody have fun tonight. Everybody Wang Chung tonight.
Play something to Wang Chung to.

You have to have something somewhat unhinged to follow up Hasselhoff on a mixtape, which is right where the Super Furry Animals live. And I can definitely Wang Chung to (Drawing) Rings Around The World.

Day 27 – Hidden Track
You know the game, and we’re gonna play it. - Wait you want us to play some Nada Surf? Again, I don't think I'm understanding these assignments!

Silversun Pickups "Carnavas" - there is a world where the song Lazy Eye was really popular and in that world people that didn't really like music or indie rock liked that song, a lot, and played that song, a lot, to the point where I didn't care to ever hear that song again...I still really the song and have gotten over the resentment towards the people that wouldn't stop playing it in an attempt to ruin it for me....also they had to be almost as popular as Nada Surf!!!

Day 28 – (Don’t Fear) The Reaper
Come on, baby (don't fear the reaper). Baby, take my hand (don't fear the reaper). We'll be able to fly (don't fear the reaper). Baby, I'm your man.
Play something heavy.

Melvins - Stoner Witch

I'll roll with one of my top50 all time for this prompt.

Everybody have fun tonight. Everybody Wang Chung tonight.
Play something to Wang Chung to.

Drugdealer "Hiding In Plain Sight" (2022 Mexican Summer)
Wang Chung recorded the theme song for the mid-80's film "To Live And Die In L.A.". The latest Drugdealer release includes the instrumental "To Live And Drive In L.A." I can Wang Chung to this. This short track makes a nice segue into Side 3 of the mixtape.

My ear isn't perfect, but is it possible Jaco Pastorius is playing bass on this track?

My ear isn't perfect, but is it possible Jaco Pastorius is playing bass on this track?

It seems credited to someone else, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was influenced by him. Drugdealer likes to emulate the late 70's pop rock and yacht rock sounds and Jaco doesn't fall too far from that.

Run D.M.C. "Raising Hell" (1986 Profile Records; 2019 club reissue)
