Day 4 – Moonage Daydream
I'll be a rock 'n' rollin' bitch for you - Jean Claude Van Glam

Playing catch-up and clearly not understanding how this works...let me explain... This clearly isn't necessary glam rock, wouldn't call this glamorous either.... Here's what happened, I don't have any glam rock in my collection, I was thinking about songs about glamorous things and I thought this record had a song called Glam Rock...I was close...it's actually called "Gram Rock" and has nothing to do with glam or rock... I've committed.... This mixtape is off the rails already!!

Good enough!

Day 6 – I’m Not In Love
I’m not in love, so don’t forget it. It’s just a silly phase I’m going through.
Play an album/artist/genre you were really into for a while. Or from a rabbit hole you dove into for a while.

How about a rabbit hole I (and my wife as she keeps reminding me) totally realize I'm currently in? Plus this brings my playlist into the current century. Hate Dancin' is a surprisingly good transition from Christopher Cross too, you could classify it as Psychedelic Yacht Rock.

Poets of Rhythm "Discern/Define" (2001 Ninja Tune; 2021 Daptone reissue)
As I mentioned last month, I dove deep into the funk rabbit hole during the late 90's and early 2000's. One of the modern funk bands I enjoyed and collected was the Poets of Rhythm. They released 45's under a bunch of aliases, probably over 20 different band names, which were collected on the compilations Original Raw Soul Vol. 1-3, all to make it look like long lost recordings from a "discovered" 70's label. This was their bigger label debut, the music being slightly more produced, but still pretty raw with heavy drums. A little funk will also flow well from the Thundercat cut I used yesterday.

Day 5 – Fooled Around And Fell In Love
I fooled around and fell in love, since I met you baby - I'm on a boat!!! Or don't rock the yacht?
PXL_20221206_170939172.jpg
Seawind "S/T" - more smooth jazz than yacht rock but you can't tell me this wouldn't fit in any yacht rock playlist?!! Went with an instrumental because the singing makes it feel a little more disco-ish so we need to keep to near the water!

What a great tune! And, hilariously the least glam-rock EVER, ha ha ha ha!

The Apples "Killing" - a funk cover of Rage Against the Machine... Why not?! I think @Turbo left the funk rabbit hole open because I fell down that as well but really focused on 45's from all sorts of little labels...oh and Daptone, I really fell down that Daptone rabbit hole but I'm not going there because it's still an ongoing concern...A little bonus picture or two of some random 45's (I added a few selections from The Poets of Rhythm 🙂) I picked up during this time, not everything but a nice cross section of all the labels that popped up around the early 2000's that I was obsessed with...

I followed their releases up until Dear Catastrophe Waitress and the my interest fizzled out.
I still love the first 3 albums though

I'm adding "Expectations" to the playlist

Late this Summer I began getting into 1970s Capricorn Records Southern Rock bands. Let It Flow kinda kicked things around gf but I added a few others to my collection as a result.

I was first introduced to Sparks by a coworker at the record store where I worked, just after Lil’ Beethoven was released and I really enjoyed that album. But knowing how many albums they had released, I resisted pursuing more extensive fandom until last year. I think I bought 12 of their records within a two month span. Their impressive discography makes a very deep rabbit hole. This one is in my top 3 of their records.

V/A
- Soul Explosion

Going down the Stax rabbit hole was my real introduction to soul music. I’m a lot more focused on Colemine/Daptone and other modern artists these days, but still a hefty legacy of great music and home to some of my favourite artists (Otis Redding, Isaac Hayes, Staple Singers…). RIP Jim Stewart.

Play some Yacht Rock, or anything related to fools, sailing or sipping champagne.

The title cut is a Yacht Rock stable.

So smooooth!

@Potato-Socks always tells me how big of a fan he is of his live album Weekend in L.A. I really should dig into that some time.
