December 2022 Vinyl Spin Challenge: The Intergalactic Mixtape Dance-Off!

Day 7 – I Want You Back
Oh darlin', I was blind to let you go (Let you go, baby). But now since I've seen you it is on (I want you back). Oh I do now (I want you back). Ooh ooh baby (I want you back). Yeah yeah yeah yeah. (I want you back).
Play something you haven’t played in a long time. And dance around like baby Groot.

Tune-Yards have plenty to dance to. Plus, here I am trying to regrow baby Groot... did he move?

Now that I’m thinking about it, Jarvis kinda does a Groot-like dance in this video.

FYI, if you’d like a single disc copy of this album (without the song “Babies,”) I offered it up in the PIF thread:

It’s been a minute since I last spun this early 00s gem!

It’s been a week now since the challenge started, let’s see how my mixtape is coming along…

Day 5 – Fooled Around And Fell In Love
I fooled around and fell in love, since I met you baby.
Play some Yacht Rock, or anything related to fools, sailing or sipping champagne.

Numero Group - Seafaring Strangers: Private Yacht
This is their yacht rock comp, and just like other NG comps, it has some great stuff and some not-so-great stuff...one of the songs reminds me of that special Ween humor - "Wrap Myself Up in Your Love"

Day 6 – I’m Not In Love
I’m not in love, so don’t forget it. It’s just a silly phase I’m going through.
Play an album/artist/genre you were really into for a while. Or from a rabbit hole you dove into for a while.

Blue Öyster Cult – Imaginos

I've always kinda dug BÖC but finally rabbit-holed deep and hard about five years ago when I started to pick up a handful of their albums on CD before finally just dropping the duckets on the complete Columbia years box set which received near continuous play in my car for a couple of years. I never really climbed out of this rabbit hole, honestly, and have been slipping back in, in fact, building my BÖC vinyl library and finally obtaining their late-era studio albums on CD. This has long been on of my favourite Cult releases (it's not a proper album, per se, and has quite the convoluted saga to it) which I finally got on vinyl today, thanks in part to @scotthilk's Discogs rebate PIF over PIFsgiving. The cover has seen some water, but the vinyl itself looked damn near unplayed!

Moonstarr "Dupont" - now this takes me back!!! I don't think I've listened to this since the early 2000's...I remember really digging this record back then and kind of getting into like broken beat stuff but never fully jumping in which is probably for the best, I didn't need another type of music to chase back then... Don't need that now either but that usually doesn't stop me!

I haven't actually spun this particular piece of wax ever, as I just took it out of the shrink when I put it on - but I do recall picking up the CD when it was released and listening quite a bit. I can safely say it's probably been about 20 years since I've played this album in any format, though!

I really dug this album when I got it, and Strand of Oaks was new to me at that point. So I eventually bought four more of his albums...and I don't really love them. In fact, I PIF'd one last year and currently have two up for grabs on the PIF thread. Any takers?

Anyway, I enjoyed today's spin of it...I still dig it, I'll keep this one, but realized I don't need his discography on vinyl.

Neil Young w/Crazy Horse - Zuma

Not only have I not listened to this in awhile, it would also be the last record in my A-Z playthrough. So it's possible I wouldn't be throwing this on for a long time still unless it came to mind to listen to it. Such a good album.

The Boo Radleys - Giant Steps

A couple of years ago, I decided to dig deeper into shoegaze (a genre whose peak occurred when I was in elementary school and on the wrong side of an ocean). One band I discovered was the Boo Radleys, and I'm still waiting for an affordable repress of this one, so the CD it is!

I have some yacht rock adjacent albums that may have a song or 2 that would be "yacht rock", but not a album that would be considered on its own.

So I'm going with "sailing" -

HP Lovecraft – This Is HP Lovecraft (Sailing On The White Ship)
Philips – 6336 210, 1967/1972

UK reissue of the debut self-titled "H.P. Lovecraft".
