December Vinyl Spins Challenge

Day 9: Gifts

Aretha Franklin
- Sparkle (Music from the Warner Bros. Motion Picture)

I don’t usually gift records to close friends & family as none of my friends are as into vinyl as I am & my dad doesn’t play his very often. This was an album I’d gifted @Poly-Rythmo for Secret Santa a couple years ago and it’s an album I should give more people, this combination of Aretha’s vocals & Curtis’ production is A1!

Day 9: Gifts

December is the month of giving, share a record you love to gift to people.

Rahsaan Roland Kirk – The Case Of The 3 Sided Dream In Audio Color

I wasn't familiar with this one before this year but I've already bought 4 copies, and will likely continue to snap up any copies I come across for gifting purposes. In fact, this copy will likely go up in the PIF thread tomorrow once I've listened to make sure it plays clean.

I first picked this up after it was mentioned to me by my wife's colleague's husband, who is a musician and music teacher. I've Enjoyed what Kirk before but never done a deep dive into his catalog. This thing is like a technicolor fever dream! I loved it right out the gate, and it may well be my most played non-2023/24 album of this year. It's not one I see mentioned much, nor has it received any sort of significant reissue, so I'm helping spread the gospel.

Day 11

I’ve had the privilege of having our host @Joe Mac as a Santa. He is definitely not a grinch as my fat fingers meant he went above and beyond to get me my gifts. He also sent me this absolutely beautiful record that I adore and would not have been exposed to without his gift:

Anna Mieke - Idle Mind

Day 10: Gifts II

Share a record that was a wonderful gift that you received.

Majid Soula = ⵎⴰⵊⵉⴷ ⵙⵓⵍⴰ – Chant Amazigh = ⵛⵛⵏⴰ ⴰⵎⴰⵣⵉⵖ

My poetic partner-in-rhyme doesnt collect vinyl and only owns maybe a dozen CDs, but he's on Bandcamp for many many hours a week and has fantastic and eclectic taste. He bought this for me when I dragged him to his neighborhood record store on a visit last year.

Day 12

One day I’ll pick up the ones I don’t have. Any how @AC Slaughter brought us one of my most favorite records to be discovered through our monthly member curated club.

GOAT - Requiem

A beautiful psychedelic funky rootsy romp through the world of sound that against all odds comes from Sweden. 🤯
