no free shipping on the NINE HUNDRED DOLLAR Bill Evans box set is mental to me.Anyone who buys all seven should get a private session with Fagen, but I doubt Chad would even give free shipping.

Ha, yeah! But that $150 price tag is doing its best to 'normalize' it! If all those other SD titles were available right now in this format for $60 each, they'd be flying off the shelves. That's still way too expensive for a single record.

Yeah, me too. I wonder what the list price will be on the UMe reissues I am gonna guess like $28-$32 but you might find them on sale like a year after their release for like $18 on Amazon. I will probably pick up Countdown To Ecstasy, My OG Aja is very clean so I won’t likely double dip for that one and then wait for the others to go on sale. And I’d be buying

It’s good to have a plan.
Do you think they press all of them at once?20,000 to 30,000 pressing runs for each of these titles seems pretty high too, which should temper flippers a bit I'd think.
Nice! Nailed it! Do I win a prize?Steely Dan - Can't Buy A Thrill LP - uDiscover Music
At long last: the classic Steely Dan catalog is back on vinyl. Led by Walter Becker and Donald Fagen, Steely Dan released 7 albums from 1972-1980. The vinyl series will kick off with Can’t Buy A Thrill, now in its 50th anniversary year, which features the band’s breakthrough hits “Do It Again,”...shop.udiscovermusic.com
These Steely Dan UHQRs are a sad reminder that I will buy the first four zeppelin albums when they get the same treatment.. hopefully those aren't 45rpm though and save some cash?
UDiscover is limiting the number of copies you can preorder to 4 per customer. Between this and the UHQR I can only preorder 7 copies total.
I guess I just won’t be able to have a dedicated copy for my bathroom setup.
Those flipper just ruin it for us regular fans.

You think that’s the next big pants-pooping announcement?
Yeah, it is kinda stingy given the price of the boxset. I called Acoustic Sounds this morning because their cryptic email invoice for the Evans boxset just said "Outside Shipper" for delivery method. Acoustic Sounds informed me they are shipping all those Evans boxsets via Fed-Ex with a signature requirement at delivery. So, with the weight (24 LPs at 180g each plus box/booklet = ~5000 grams [11 pounds]), size, and sig requirement, it is probably at least $50 to ship each boxset (maybe more depending on the location). Adds up to be a sizeable amount of shipping costs. Then again, if Chad is making several million dollars per Steely Dan UHQR, Acoustic Sounds can afford the free shipping! I will say, I only paid $10 for Fed-ex shipping for the Evans boxset, so it was a relatively good deal in that regard (hell, media mail for a single LP these days is $4.19).no free shipping on the NINE HUNDRED DOLLAR Bill Evans box set is mental to me.
Couldn't agree more. Chad is no philantropist. He is straight up gouging and making it out to be a great service he is doing while fucking people over.I mean....it creates a quandry for the people who actually want a good audiophile copy of the albums. I hate that Chad is doing this. I hope they don't come anywhere close to selling out. They are pressing 20-30k copies of each one (between 3 mil and 4.5 mil in sales for EACH ALBUM). Chad acts like he's doing some great service for everybody by finally releasing audiophile versions of these albums but all he's doing is screwing over fans and laughing all the way to the bank.
Agree. Press these Steely Dan records like the Tone Poet series. Glossy gatefold jacket, AAA, one LP at 33 rpm, sell them for $40 a pop. That is audiophile enough for most listeners.Couldn't agree more. Chad is no philantropist. He is straight up gouging and making it out to be a great service he is doing while fucking people over.
It's easy for me. Ignore these. Just don't buy them. Say no. Have self-control. Let them sit on his shelves. Buy what will surely be fantastic hi-res digital downloads of each for $25. Enjoy the music. Sit it out.
Then Chad will learn the only way he can learn - that people won't buy a thrill for $150.
And he will have to revert to putting out these types of titles at 33rpm for $35, like the overwhelming majority of people want.
