Definitive Audiophile pressings

These Steely Dan UHQRs are a sad reminder that I will buy the first four zeppelin albums when they get the same treatment.. hopefully those aren't 45rpm though and save some cash?
I've said it before, but will be absolutely shocked if they do Zeppelin.

We're more likely looking at somebody like Jethro Tull (which has already been somewhat confirmed from that video your of AS). And Bob Marley is also getting UHQR treatment. Both probably 45s at $150+. Chad isn't gonna see much reason to sell $125 33s anymore if these $150s sell out.

No, but they will lose sleep when these sit on shelves if people aren't willing to pay $170 for an album. 140k box sets take up a lot of warehouse space.

If history is any indicator this scenario is unlikely.

So far only two titles have slated release dates this year, the rest will be coming some time next year. But that can be pushed out further still depending on the sales of each consecutive title. In all likelihood it might be 2024 before the last title gets pressed.

And AP has proven time and again that everything sells out eventually. And now with so many people having fits over MoFi, AP seems to be the main brand for these luxurious, albeit ostentatious, vinyl album releases.

I just don’t think a minority within a minority are going to sway sales one way or the other.

Yeah sadly at these price margins it they will probably recoup their cost if they sell like a quarter of their inventory and they will sell that many just to flippers alone.
It'll be interesting to see flippers on this. I've already noticed less flippers for the One Steps and the last 4 or 5 of those haven't sold well at all on the secondary market. Plaidroom had to sell their Muddy Waters one steps at $80 this weekend just to free up space on their shelves.

I don't think that flippers will see value in buying a $150+shipping+tax album. By the time they pay ebay or discogs fees, you'd have to sell them for like $250 just to make a little money. I think flippers are gonna stick with the cheaper limited color variants that they can flip for 3-4x the price when they sell out.

this is a new price point for them. it may sell out eventually but i think the KoB 45 is selling likely slower than they anticipated. price point is gonna influence sales more than people griping about it on a forum for sure. But I think they are losing a ton of their international buyers from these prices. it's $170 with tax and shipping in the US. You're probably pushing $300 to other countries.

Plus VAT of approx 20% if it’s going into Europe. Also now that it’s broke the 150 mark it’s hitting customs too so that’s another 10%. It’s never cheap for us getting these audiophile records but $120 really is about the limit (that’s around 150 with postage added on) before the fees really start to pile on.

Not sure what you mean, that the people not willing to pay these prices are the minority??

The minority within a minority are the folks like us debating this stuff ad nauseam in online forums.

As I said before, if history is any indicator these titles will all sell out eventually, and if they don’t AP/AS like has contingency plans to deal with potential overstock.

Food for thought.

The first Steely Dan 2x45 title, “Can’t Buy A Thrill”, is product number AUHQR 0009-45.

Miles Davis “Kind Of Blue” 2x45 is product number AUHQR 0004-45.

So what four titles are between the two?

Perfect spot for a LZ I-IV boxset, a’la the Classic Records “Led Zeppelin Volume One” boxset.

Or, more likely, individual releases of I-IV.

Idk, I highly doubt that the majority of people with a turntable will buy any of these, and with that pressing amount, I also doubt they’ll sell out anytime soon. Three, four years maybe, but not soon.

Rastaman Vibration and Jethro Tull have already been confirmed as UHQRs and have been in production. So many people are getting their hopes up with Zepp and I don't see it happening...The Who are more likely to get UHQRs than Zeppelin, Floyd or the Beatles.

In the video that came out today with Chad talking about the Steely Dan UHQR he specifically mentions his other favorite rock bands - Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and The Beatles. Based on that alone I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect at least one of those bands, if not all three, to make an appearance on UHQR.

Also, if Bob Marley and Jethro Tull are for sure to be next, it doesn’t necessarily mean they will be next in catalog sequence.

Of course, never say never, but I would be absolutely stunned if there were Beatles UHQRs. I could see LZ due to the classics stampers. Pink Floyd I have my doubts, but wouldn't be shocked (like I would with the Beatles).
