Definitive Audiophile pressings

I was over exaggerating to make a point. I’m not ignoring anyone sound. Just kinda shocking that 100% of the people I’ve had to put on the ignore button in the last year are mainly active, or have mostly introduced themselves to the community, through this thread. And it’s for the most part a thread I like!

It makes sense with audiophile quality wrapped up in 2 contentious things: $$ and human subjectivity.

Edit: but it also gives us a great concept of ‘ass mountaineering’

It's shocking how aggressive some first time posters can be right from the gate. It's hard to know if it's that they're so used to being in toxic places that they instantly go on the offensive or if they're trolling and looking to start fights for fun. The best part of N&G is that disagreements over music are generally polite or jovial with the trash talk. It exhausting being around smug, elitist, and asshole comments all the time. They've got to be such miserable people.

Oh, go climb a butt competitively why don’t ya!

Did I do it right?

That's so on point.

Money and subjectivity will always be part of it and it's really unfortunate that it causes so much disagreement. People's money is nobody else's business in the end. We all have different discretionary funds and different things we're willing to spend it on. This is something we should all respect. People drop hundreds on one-steps, Michael Jackson, Steely Dan, Eagles, Van Halen, Miles, Jimi, vintage MOFI Bowies or Beatles, original pressings, japanese pressings, etc... power to you all!

The subjectivity part is why I come to this thread though. I want to know what people think of different pressings. To me, an "audiophile" record needs to be (1) a quality pressing (quiet, no defects, etc.) and (2) sound damn good. It doesn't need to be the best in both of those, but both need to be excellent. People on here are the best resource for that information. I can make the call on dropping cash with that info. And sometimes, I go NightTurbo and just go for it.

Also, we get ass mountains. This thread has it all.

So I hope one of you grabs that Randy Travis too. I'm spinning it again and the detail, clarity, and punch of the instruments is just incredible. I'm kind of reminded of Sinatra at times with his vocals on a couple tracks, which surprised me too. Hands down one of the best sounding records in my collection now. As one of the reviews on discogs put it, regardless of your feelings on country this is just great sounding album.

I thought about it as it’s part of that run of neo-traditional debuts that arrived in 1986 that helped reshape country music for the next decade. I have Dwight Yoakam’s, Lyle Lovett’s, and Steve Earl’s debut albums that all dropped that year on wax, the only one I am missing is Travis the reasoning is that I haven’t found a copy locally at a reasonable price, and by reasonable I mean like sub $10. I am not saying it’s only worth $8-10 but VG+ OG copies on Discogs go for. So it’s weird because as far as MoFi titles go, it’s reasonably priced and an album I would enjoy but then again it’s one that I haven’t even spent $10 to acquire which makes me wonder if I need a MoFi copy.

Makes sense. Since I'm at best a disinterested outsider to the genre, I can't compare this to it's contemporaries. I do know if it didn't sound this good I would be giving it to my brother-in-law. But it does, so he's never going to know that it was almost his.

Seems like the bad pressing reviews for the P. Floyd Animals 2018 remix are appearing, especially the European pressing. Complaints about scratches on the records right out of the sleeve, and surface noise. I want to pick this up, but not sure if it is worth the hassle. Granted Amazon has the deluxe version for $55 and easy returns. Wouldn't mind hearing the DVD-Audio or Blu-Ray

Paper sleeves too, I mean seriously?

I’m still in for the US (or whatever Palladin is sending), it’s my favorite Floyd album.

I just preordered the deluxe edition with LP, BluRay, and DVD-audio. It is my favorite Floyd album as well, so why not!

I also read the bass is more prominent on the 2018 remix, and that is a plus for me. I really enjoy Claypool's Frog Brigade's live cover of the entire Animals album and that is largely due to the bass being upfront in the mix.

If you haven't heard it (and dont mind Claypool's nasally vocals):

I never got the VMP Soft Bulletin because I wasn’t a member then and it was too close to the whole shut down debacle for me to rejoin. I kinda always regretted not having a copy, even if I didn’t regret not buying one from them.

Anyway I was in a record store and saw a copy of the album and took a chance on it. It turns out it’s a Bellman master pressed in Pallas in 2019 too and it’s a wonderful master and pressing!
