Definitive Audiophile pressings

Got the new Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot box set in from the Target sale today. Spinning it now and no shock but it sounds awesome. Bellman cut. Looking forward to spinning the extra discs.
It’s a really great sounding release. I just put it on after the Sun Ra one. I’ll have to this pressing to my other version I have from Nonsuch that isn’t the Bellman cut. Back to back audiophile winners today in the mail!

The whole 7Lp box is really fantastic as I’ve been making my way through it. Very cool to hear the different versions of songs and demos. Really nice pressings all around

there's a new boomboom interview out. some kinda interesting stuff in here related to this thread.

the cliffnotes:

*likes DSD256 and thinks its very good sounding format. not as big a fan of DSD64/128 and thinks DSD256 doesn't have the issues present that the lower DSD formats do (doesn't really go into detail on what those issues are).

*reiterates that Sony hasn't let out any original tapes since 2005 to him or other non-east coast engineers. they let tapes out to Sterling at the time but that was it and unsure now that Sterling is in Nashville if they are letting them get access to original tapes still. Everything else Sony is done from copy tapes (or digital) since 2005.

*is very excited for the upcoming Monk reissue that him and Harley just cut. says they are also very far ahead on the TP schedule for cuts--already onto the albums that wont be released until late 2024.

*likes the mono Blue Train a little bit better. says Rudy used to play with the reverb volume live on Blue Train and it's more noticeable on the stereo left channel and less noticeable on the mono. seems to be on Coltrane's sax (and it's not the only album Rudy did that on).

*Blue Train tone poets sold so well that it was back on the top 200 billboard charts on release week haha. Kinda crazy.

*KG is doing a BUNCH of stuff with Jackpot. 4 Booker T & the MGs albums from the master tapes, 3 Electric Prunes AAA and 3 titles from the Wipers also AAA.

*His Cat's name is Maggie May.

*Blues and the Abstract Truth is his favorite jazz album ever.

*KG recut four of the albums in the Bill Evans box set that was just repressed. Chad didn't give him credit in the videos he did promoting it (fuckin' chad). Kinda makes me wonder if they will do some breakouts...but thats just my speculation.

Edit: also noted that the wait time for Stoughton jackets right now is 36 weeks. He’s been trying to get jackets done for the first release on his new label and ended up going with another company that he thinks does similarly nice work.

hey @zdkaiser or anyone else with the new Bill Evans box set. whenever ya have a chance, could you check out that dead wax and see which albums were recut by KG only? would just have his initials in the deadwax and not hoffman's. doesn't seem to be on discogs.

This sounds like homework. And on a Saturday?! :)

I didnt check all 22 sides, but Every Digs... Sides 1 and 2 seem to be only KG. Sides 3 and 4 have SH though. New Conceptions Side 1 looks like only KG but Side 2 is KG/SH. The others 9 albums all seem to have a SH component
Thanks! I’m guessing if it says KPG@CA anywhere those would be the new cuts since KG was at ATM for the old ones. Almost wonder if he did new cuts for breakouts then…
