Definitive Audiophile pressings

Definitely not legal, which is why they say "waffle" on facebook, and only using paypal friends and family/cashapp/venmo. they tell people not to use the word raffle at all in the payment notes. I don't think Facebook and other places really care enough to regulate it. But some of these people are making a LOT of money on these. Pretty sure it's one guy's full-time job just to do an online auction every week of MoFi and other audiophile stuff. He buys on MoFi/Music Direct, then auctions them off as soon as they arrive. That same guy has had his venmo shut down a few times.

Yeah Facebook couldn’t give a shit less what happens on any of their platforms unless they can be implicated. To stop that you’d need to have hefty penalties against them for allowing the platform for the raffles to exist. For a company that effectively acts beyond borders I don’t think enforcement really has the means or will to go after it.

There’s a reason raffles are illegal in the US without a permit, and why only charities/fundraisers are allowed to do them. How people on FB continue to get away with it by calling them “waffles” is beyond me. It’s such a scam. I know several people that will pay top dollar for stuff at shops or elsewhere bc they know they can throw them up and make almost doubly by having 30 people pay $15 for a chance to win.

I think one of the reasons why waffles have become more popular (at least in the US), is because PayPal is sending out 1099 tax forms for any online sales above $600 in the US. So, who is gonna want to sell off their expensive records and pay a 25% capitals gains tax on it at the end of the year. Or... they can simply waffle it off on FB with a little extra effort, use a F&F payment type, and avoid all that. Granted it is not legal.

Personally, I enjoy participating in some waffles. I mean, it is just a form of gambling. Would I be down to throw in $5 for a random number to win a $125 record? Yeah, why not? It is fun to do, especially in the right FB groups.

Obliviously some people will take advantage waffles, but if their entry fees were so astronomical, the waffle shouldn't fill.
I've seen waffles where someone puts up a brand new Technics 1200 with a $50 buy-in. Seller makes a little extra cash on the top, but the winner gets a major deal on a fine turntable.

I once paid $15.37 for a single 24 oz can of Miller Lite at a baseball game. Lol
Yelp...went to a concert recently and I was only drinking water. $9 for a bottle of water. DASANI water. My boy paid $19 for a beer but at least he got alcohol. What the fuck did I get? Hydrated!

Also, I paid $40 once for a copy of Bella Donna. Oh, wait, that was VMP. Fuck it....I'm drenched.

For anyone who might be interested, I ordered Van Morrison's Moondance from Walmart, probably following someone posting about the SQ of this pressing. I received the 2020 KPG@CA pressing, which according to Walmart's listing is pressed at RTI. Matches this discogs listing, minus the hype sticker (there aren't any stickers on the copy I received). Decent price as well.

Interesting because I have this one which is KPG@ATM and RTI. So…….. which one is better…….. can someone answer this or am I going to have to find out?

If I had to guess, I'd say the one I linked to is more likely to have a digital step in its path, but I have no idea whether that's true. Either way, I can't think of any reason the 2020 pressing would be any better than the 2008. (I'm also not sure what the 'CA' in the runout signifies; and interesting that there's a Steve Hoffman element to that 2008 pressing.)

EDIT: Duh! 'CA' refers to Cohearent Audio.

I believe that the Gray/Hoffman is analogue and the later Gray is Digital, sure it sounds great though.

ATM is analogue for all the Van Morrison stuff then he recut it from digital at CA. Both sound excellent though as others have said!

Ooh, this is the one I have, and has KPG/SH on Side A, wonder why Side B doesn’t.

LOL, the one I have from 2015 is the other way around! Side A is KPG and Side B is KPG/SH.

Was just there a couple weeks ago...which shop?
Stan’s records. They had about 40 MoFis, mostly sealed. Prices were all over the place though. Had just about every Beatles MoFi sealed for $300+ each…REM murmur sealed for $200 I think. Tons of simply vinyl releases and some Sheffield labs. Must have gotten a big audiophile collection in recently.

$300? All of them? Do they have an online store. Because there’s one I’m missing and I’d totally take it for that…
