Definitive Audiophile pressings

Oh cool, I've been wondering about that one, I'll just grab a copy

-heads to cogs

No I will not...

Yeah, I think it was already creeping up in price when I picked it up. I got one in the US$40+shipping range on discogs but there were already a lot of people asking much more at the time. Pulled the trigger because it looked like I wouldn't have much chance getting it at that price if I waited longer.

If you're wondering about New Order, I did own multiple copies of each the first three albums.

Movement - I've had the original canadian cinram pressing, which sounds good, but then got the Quiex pressing that was also going around at the time. That's the one to get I think.

Power Corruption and Lies - I have the recent deluxe box 1/2 speed remaster and an original canadian pressing. The original beats it handily. Not even close. In fact, I like it so much I ended up getting a cleaner copy of the original canadian pressing.

Low-Life - I have both a canadian original and the Rhino remaster. I actually have the 2nd pressing of the Rhino from Optimal, not the 2009 from RTI but I believe the plates are the same. The remaster I believe is better in this case. The original is a bit too shifted towards the highs. The highs are crisp and sound great but it's missing some oomph. The reissue boosts the bass, which I really like. Hooky's work is fantastic on this one and it really deserves to be clearly heard.
Funny with the Rhino reissues for NO, it is a total crapshoot. Some of the albums sound great and others they totally ruined and had to repress. My Rhino Low-Life beats my Canadian OG hands down

Glad to hear it's not just me wrt Low-Life. Completely the opposite experience with PC&L. I think it's the same guy doing the cutting in all cases too (Frank Arkwright). Go figure.

What about Brotherhood? Do you have the Rhino? Wondering about it. I have an original Canadian of that one too but I'm not in love with the sound.

I guess with Technique, it's pretty much just the Rhino since originals will be hard to come by. Do you have an opinion on that one?

I have a UK og of Brotherhood that sounds great and a CDN og of Technique that sounds good but not great. I think Brotherhood is like Low Life and Rhino got it right the second time but I am happy with my copy. I think Technique is another that they butchered but not sure, hard to easily get to the info on Discogs now with their new layout (which sucks donkey ass)

Cheers. I'll try to find a Rhino of Brotherhood. I should probably look for an original Technique though.

Here's one I didn't expect. I picked up the 40th anniversary edition of Unknown Pleasures to get a clean player copy. Got it a few months ago. Finally decided to do a few A/B comparisons to check with my original. My original canadian pressing is pretty good but is showing its age and has some pops and clicks here and there. Anyway, I heard this new remaster was pretty good but I didn't think it would be better than my original. Boths ends of the spectrum are better defined on the remaster. Highs are cleaner but not harsh or digital and the basslines contain more detail. It retains the cavernous dread of the original as well. Anyway, I like this remaster a lot. My copy is dead quiet too. Pressed at Optimal.

I got the 2007 black years ago for like 15$. Sounds great to me! But now I'm curious to hear this one!

sounds like a job for Tom Port and his Hot Stampers!

JPC cancelled my Son of Schmillson order after a year today. It’s apparently not getting a repress. Got a refund of €69.99 plus €7 shipping.

Then I went and found some old stock on sale somewhere else for €50 plus €10 shipping. It’s already been shipped 😎

Not a bad days work!

Man those have just been sitting at my local for about a year... Lemme know how it sounds.

The last couple of years we don’t seem to be getting much MoFi stock here at all. I’m guessing JPC never got this the first time around either and it’s just been listed for ages. Will do, I’m sure sonically it’ll be excellent but it’s definitely not as strong a song list as Nilsson Schmillson either.

Well, as I suspected that Animals 2018 purchase did not go well.
I picked up the boxset for about $59. The LP has some noisy spots, a few clicks here and there. It sounds pretty good overall, but not perfect, though visually the record looks flawless. Side B is worse than A. Think A was near flawless.

I have listened to the hi-rez audio (DVD-audio) in the boxset and it has me thinking I should just stop buying records and fucking around with defects in search of some out of reach audio nirvana.

Maybe I'll opt for SACDs when available going forward. Probably not though. Rather torture myself with customer service emails and returns.

Yeah I took a shot despite the reviews and it's exactly what all the reviews say, noise throughout the first 45 seconds or so of both sides along with many pops and clicks throughout. The mastering is good but the pressing defects ruin it. I'm kinda at the point where I'm only buying "audiophile" stuff because anything "below" that in terms of quality is just not worth it for how bad most of the pressings are now. And this was apparently Record Industry who are usually quite good. Just a mess. Not to mention charging $45 and using paper sleeves, that's just unconscionable.
