Definitive Audiophile pressings

i agree, but I would add that the VMP jazz dispensary titles feel and look like more expensive packages than the joe Henderson. ( I might be wrong, I need to dig out the Joe Henderson again)

I think the only difference is the VMP ones are numbered/limited to 1000 and they have an obi strip (except the Axelrod) and colored vinyl. The rest is the same — tip-on matte jackets, 180g vinyl, pressed at QRP, mastered by Kevin Gray.

I haven't seen my copy of Joe Henderson for a while. I might have been dazzled by the vinyl colour, but I thought I was more impressed with the new ones. They are too expensive but I do like them.

I don’t know if Henderson was but most of the Jazz Dispensary titles were also limited to 1,000. The Henderson took 2 years to sell out or something. It’s good to know the VMPs are pressed at QRP too.

All this talk of the Henderson has twisted my arm into digging it out to play. @keylime_5 is correct, the only difference is that the Henderson has more of a matte finish whereby the VMP (Idris Muhammad anyway) is gloss.

Aren't the VMP one's pressed at RTI?

There's another I will have to dig out. I also had the 3 vibes on Jazz dispensary, which I remember sounding pretty fantastic, but seems to have got lost amongst my collection.

Yeah that's right. It's confusing because they press all their Classics track at QRP. But all the same, both are equal plants in terms of prestige (no pun intended)

Yep you’re right. I tend to like pressings from both plants though and find them on mostly the same level. Quality-wise is expect they are similar!

Agree entirely. I do like the feel of the heavyweight RTI presses though. Purely from an aesthetic point of view, with the rounded edges, like on the TP's.

Any chance to see a standard release of these VMP exclusives at some point? I have all the Top Shelf serie and all the records sound great. I would love to add more titles to this collection.

I wish I had more, I rarely saw them at reasonable prices. I would assume they would do black vinyl presses at some point.

edit - It might just be me, but I think the only point of coloured vinyl its to do more 'limited' or 'exclusive' runs

I'd assume that Craft will do a black version eventually. I agree with @Andy --Craft seems to not limit too many titles just to limited color pressings. VMP probably has a window of exclusivity.

I thought that might the case when I noticed MoFi don't do the same through their own branded website.

Legal but very definitely suspect behaviour if you ask me. They must now it's suspect or would be doing the same on Both stores.
MD seems to raise prices when MoFis stock is depleted. A local here does the same on RSD- regular prices on RSD. The day after and beyond, prices mirror average price on Discogs. I don’t like it either way, but it’s a classic case of supply and demand.

I would genreally agree with you, but the difference here is they are the manufacturer and are creating a bit of a false market. I don't think it's good practice to go to market with a product & raise the price 200% because you have nearly sold out.

I agree it is a bit underhanded, but at least they are available (at least initially) through other retailers. Music Direct's shipping is too much so I don't bother ever ordering from them, so the only time I consider buying a MoFi product is through another retail. But either way, it does leave a bad taste in my mouth. Don't get me started on MMJ.
