I found it restocked at Target of all places. The Craft is really well done if you can find it for a decent priceSuch a good album! Really should have picked up the Craft reissue Kevin Gray did but never got around to it.
Buy both. All kidding aside, the 2019 is quite good in my opinion. Is it better than the original, it is tough to say. I have spent about 30yrs with a copy of the original so I know it inside out, but I do like the 2019 a lot. Its warmer and makes the best use of modern studio mixing techniques on what was very much an album of demos.
I thought I saw it not too long ago on Amazon.ca. I will keep my eyes peeled for it a normal priceHas that 2019 dried up? Seems to be a little hard to find (at the regular price) right now.
thanks! think this is the last one i need from the newer MoFis. i have an 80s (?) 33RPM MoFi but its not super clean...Grateful Dead American Beauty MOFI about to be restocked. Highly recommend that one.
Of course this happens after I splurged for a copy on discogs in July for $90 + tax/shipping
I'm sure no one particularly cares but for what it's worth in going to revise my review of that pressing of The Slider. It is softer than the remastered high res stream but it's much warmer and smoother and the stream can skew really harsh and tinny on a lot of tracks. Something right in the middle would be nice but really it's actually pretty good compared. I'd prefer more detail but it's a more pleasant listen than the stream so it's a keeper.Okay so early verdict.
Bookends is incredible. Huge huge stage and great bass and punch. However I have not heard the RKS so I can't compare.
Purple Rain is also really really dynamic with great punch and stage. But I can tell where KPGs is going to better it. The vocals. There's definitely an inherent harshness to the driving aspects of the vocals that I'm sure KPG will have softened. But that being said I can't wait to compare the two because this does sound really really good. Much better than I expected.
So Bookends and Purple Rain were both better than I expected. Not thin at all, great low end, great punch and separation. Both fantastic
The Slider. Er... don't particularly like this one. I find it soft and muddy. Very little punch or separation. Compared to the stream it's falls pretty short for me. But it's still a great player copy, just not gunna be the end game copy.
And the Flag Series Rubber Soul... basically the same thing as The Slider. It's fine, but it's soft and doesn't have the separation and punch of other versions. I can see why people don't like this version. Again, totally good player copy but not gunna be the end game either.
So all in I was hoping for 3 out of 4 being great, got 2 so it's cool. It'll be fun to listen through the whole albums. I only had time to spin a few tracks from each.

Agreed, Electric Warrior is my favorite of the two and the Mofi 45 is bonkers good so it's definitely a different listen. That's interesting. I enjoyed Slider before having the vinyl copy, but nowhere near Electric Warrior. My only experience with it was digital - and not high res. But there are many tracks on it that I liked on their own so I still wanted a vinyl copy. It's after I got the vinyl a year ago that many of the other tracks started clicking. I wonder if what you're saying about the digital is what was keeping me from getting fully into it. Anyway, it's tough to say when these are not albums that you're super invested in.
All analog too, which is a nice bonus to know from MOFI these daysGrateful Dead American Beauty MOFI about to be restocked. Highly recommend that one.

I also have the KPG. I like it a lot, but the Mofi just kills it on my rig. But I can't bring myself to get rid of the KPG haha.I picked up the MOFI last summer and I still have both the MOFI and the KPG. I can't decide which I prefer! The MOFI is cleaner but a little tilted towards the highs. The KPG is crunchier and smoother. I'm leaning towards the MOFI, but I'm not sure I can part with the KPG (and the KPG has the bonus of needing a single record flip).

How much better is American Beauty MOFI over the 50th pressing? Wasn't that one AAA as well or am I mis-remembering? Asking for a friend.
Not sure about the 50th but Rhino pressing from 2011 was AAA pressed at RTI and cut by Chris Bellman. I picked up the 2x45 MOFI and while it is better it isn’t like life changing better. I don’t regret picking it up (though I regret paying the extra $$ as I didn’t think it was gonna be repressed) because it is excellent and it’s one of my favorites but on my set up the improvements in fidelity are nominal. How much better is American Beauty MOFI over the 50th pressing?
