Definitive Audiophile pressings

Okay so I realize this is kinda an outlier to toss in here but, I just got the Missy Elliott VMP "Under Construction" and honestly? This thing is fantastic. It's Precision Record Pressing so lord knows I could get halfway through and have like, a completely different album pressed on side 3 or something but so far it sounds absolutely amazing. There's no details anywhere about who mastered/cut it so I'm not sure if it's just like a DMM or something but it absolutely slaps.

DMM's can translate really well, particularly with more modern sounding releases.

Funny enough, I am spinning the Elvis Costello - Boy Named If DMM CZ press right now, and I prefer it to CB's cut. Please don't tell anybody!!

Speaking of DMM, I just gave this press of OK Computer a spin last night and it is just incredible. Uses the same DMM plates from the Original EMI Press and is up there in sound with my 45RPM In Rainbows. Fantastic! It's getting up there in price nowadays but I bought this for 35$ in 2016 so keep your eyes peeled everyone!

Also some of my best sounding records are my Modest Mouse Up Record originals, cut DMM from Master Tape and pressed at RTI from what I can gather and they're incredibly good sounding!

I have it and it's quite excellent. But I have nothing to compare to.

See the InGroove dude's review on youtube. He compared dozens of pressings. He basically says the MOFI and the original US are the two copies to own because they are not the same. The original US is fully compressed like everything at the time but it's really well done. It's the pop-dance mix you know. He says none of the other available pressings or reissues are worth getting over this except maybe the original Japanese issue, which he says uses the same US plates (he thinks). Then he says the MOFI is the uncompressed mix and it's more open and a different experience. I can confirm the soundstage is amazing on it. Lots of details I never heard before. But maybe not as dancy as the original if you're looking for that thump. Can't say I'm missing it on my set-up though. Preference would come down to what kind of sound you like.

@mitchwagz and @Academy have it too. I'll let them chime in. @LeeVing must have received his as well.

I have to agree with this. The MOFI Thriller is excellent if you are looking for a less dance/more listening experience.

I have an 2nd pressing to compare and that one does have more bass...more compression. It sounds great...but the mofi is a better listening experience.

If I'm in the mood for a thumpy Thriller, I can always listen to that other pressing, but I see myself pulling out the MoFi more often.

I even have a feelable spot on one side - I thought I'd have to return it, but somehow it makes no sound when playing.

Mofi does need to do something about seam splits, though. Had one in the Thriller and now the American Beauty that was just repressed.

So, is this the definitive Fool For The City?
Because

I've had this one for a while and it is super. I have about $2 invested in it.

Got mine at Forced Exposure but it’s OOS now sadly
Really nice recording and pressing, and the music manages to be both super chill but also interesting, not pure background music. Caveat to the recording is that it’s live in a very small bar, and there are clinking plates and glasses at different times throughout, but it’s still a great recording to me, and I like the atmosphere. One of the tracks is streaming on youtube and bandcamp if anyone wants to hear it.

I picked this up this weekend locally at the full retail price ($55). I almost bought the last Forced Exposure copy this wknd bc it was $44 there, I think. Innersleeve still has a copy for $47 (w/ free shipping). I knew all that before spending more $ bc I wanted to support a local store, especially if they’re gonna carry smaller label stuff.

As intimated above by Kafunis, there are two versions of this. N. America is Eremite/RTI/KG. The European is Aguirre label (with Eremite). Not sure of pressing plant, and Discogs says lacquers by KG.

Definitely in the running for my album of the year.

For those hunting, it's still available direct through eremite for $44 + shipping – surely the best way to support the label.

On a related note, eremite just re-pressed Parker's Slight Freedom – originally recorded back in 2013-14, and also essential – so you could double up on shipping:
