Definitive Audiophile pressings

TBH, it took me like 5 attempts to find the 2009 Kevin Grey cut HQ180 RTI pressed of Alien Lanes. Lots of mislabeled listings on Discogs. I think I am good now.
The KG cut is actually really good. I know it’s an intentionally lofi album but it’s the best version I’ve had! Beats the green reissue and another earlier reissue I had.

MD wrote me back saying they’d grant me a one time full refund. I’m going to take it as I think a $40 record should not have this type of flaw.
Lmao MD offered me a 10% refund for a defective copy - a whole $4!!! Straight up told them that that is insulting to say the least. Simply terrible CS from a company that doesn’t seem to stand by their products.

Same. I told them my thoughts on that. It's really a shame how much I've come to despise being a customer of Music Direct and Acoustic Sounds. They are just as insufferable as the customer base they cater to. Might be why after dealing with those certain "audiophiles".

Mofi/Music Direct are terrible. When I got my Mingus One Step. It was literally missing all of the photos that were supposed to come with it. I emailed them and was told A. I didn't buy from them so tough luck and B. The printer was broken, that's why it was missing photos. That's the actual reason they told me. Oh and also the box was numbered twice, a number was poorly erased and then then re-added. And they told me that was because they re use boxes from other One Steps. Oh and both discs were warped as well. So on this supposedly premium product, The box was clearly recycled, the discs were both warped, and a significant part of the package was missing because "the printer broke" and no they wouldn't do anything about it because I didn't buy it from them.

So I did what any self respecting collector would do. I lit them up on Instagram with the help of a lot of people on here and continued to do so every day on every one of their posts until their socials person emailed me and actually fixed the issue by magically finding more photos and sending new discs that were of course also totally dish warped just like the first two. Ridiculous. Worst CS I've ever experienced.

Flaming them on instagram was a fun evening though!

The Specials half speed 45 from a couple of years ago is absolutely fantastic for what it's worth. And actually the Stranglers best of is also surprisingly good.

Which Specials is that? Their first? Also which Stranglers? Inquiring minds want to know... ;)

We need more reggae, ska, rocksteady reissues in general.

When I started digging again during the late 90's and early 2000's, there were tons of reggae reissues around. That and Blaxploitation soundstracks. I guess it was riding on the popularity of drum & bass, downtempo and trip-hop. The reissues weren't that great, but a few here and there were keepers for me. Like Horace Andy and some Burning Spear I still hold from those days. There were lots of originals to be had too. Still have a soft spot for a Black Uhuru Red I picked up then. Anyway, yeah, we're due for another round. It's been a while.
