Definitive Audiophile pressings

I have a handful of US monos (1st album, Now, Aftermath, BtB) and the UK counterparts of those albums from the mono box. Without a doubt, the US pressings are more compressed and don’t sound nearly as good. Plus they’re noisy. So not a super great comparison, but comparing the shared tracks from the US and UK albums, the new mono box pressings win easily. I will say, the US pressing I have or BtB is quite good and cut super hot. So it’s fun to crank that one but again, compressed sounding compared to the box. If you’re a big fan and can stomach the price, the mono box is definitely the way to go to get the best sounding pressings of the albums.
Thanks for the insight! I’m def gonna get the box after hearing the comparison. May sell off or trade my OG copies.

The Stones Mono set is 10k boxes with a lot of pent up demand. Will be interesting to see how long it takes to sale out.
its one of those that could go either way. list price is hefty. i do think once it's OOP it will go up quite a lot in value assuming the quality control is good on it.

I am not buying it for the resale but it's not really clear if the complete Stones on mono will ever happen again for $16 a disc. Kind of a shit or get off the pot time.

yea i'm not sure i'd buy at full price but was a bit of a no-brainer for me at the target sale price if it sounds as good as people say!

50th DSOTM has been confirmed for March (not a shock). Curious to see some details about it. “Luxury box set” is the term being used to describe it. There’s a book by Pentagram also coming out.

This is the listing for the book and description mentioned the box set

New KG interview

Some interesting tidbits. Said he just recut 4 of the jazz dispensary titles two weeks ago. Seemed to indicate they were VMP ones which would be interesting because maybe means black vinyl reissues are on the way.

Forgot his first recorded LP at his new studio is out this month. Talks about BN a bunch too
lots of content on mono:coffee::geek:

listened to this last night. great listen (i'm biased of course).

i do always forget that KG and Joe tend to prefer stereo in many cases (outside of Blue Train) which seems weird since I like mono better in many cases for some of the early 50s and 60s BN titles.

also not shocked that GZ is his least favorite european plant. other interesting tidbits:

*KG just recut 4 of the jazz dispensary titles. He seems to imply they are the VMP ones and there was something wrong with the mother so he recut them 2 weeks ago? He does tend to get mixed up with titles a lot though so will be interesting to see why he recut them and which ones he did. JD apparently said the older top shelf titles are being repressed in the next few months.

*i'd have to re-listen to some, but seemed to say that copy tape is not always better than digital high-res source from the master tape. people seem to forget that copy tape does introduce degradation but there's always the AAA or bust camp.

*he mastered 400+ LPs in 2022.

*think he also cut the OG of Joni Mitchell - Hissing of Summer Lawns? @Joe Mac --our worlds are colliding

Hahaha! I just have the Rhino of that cut by the German in house optimal dude. Of all the peak Joni albums is always going to be the last one I grab. Both excited to hear the one steps for the 4 of the 6 I do want though but equally wondering if I’m being crazy given how good the BG Blue reissue and Japanese OG for the Roses already sound…
