Definitive Audiophile pressings

SYEOR deets:

Billy Cobham Spectrum was cut by KG from flat analog master, pressed at Optimal.

The Coltrane "Ole" is mono - a breakout from the Coltrane mono box, pressed at Optimal.

Genesis Selling England is the Nick Davis remix/Universal version.

Ramones Subterranean Jungle is a breakout from the Sire Box.

Yes Fragile is the KG analog cut from a few years back, now in a direct-to-board jacket. Pressed at Record Industry.

Otis Redding Sings Soul Ballads is a breakout from the mono box.

Velvet Underground Loaded is pressed at Optimal from existing metal. Someone said: “has the full-lengths of SJ/RAR/NA.”

Warren Zevon Quiet Normal Life is pressed at Memphis/GZ from metal transferred from Record Industry. (KG cut?)

Hot Tuna Burgers is pressed at AtoZ/GZ in the US and Optimal for ROW. Cut from Archived Audio files at the plant.

Curtis Mayfield Live cut by KG from analog tapes, pressed at Precision.

Curtis Mayfield Curtis cut/pressed at Precision from archived audio. Not sure who pressed this ex-US.

B-52's Whammy cut from archived audio at Precision.

ZZ Top Eliminator cut from archived audio at Memphis, pressed at Memphis for US.GZ ROW.
Anyone grab Warren Zevon?

The BG 45 Ole is incredible; pressed at Pallas is icing.
He did an amazing job.
Yes cutting a ~19 min song in half is not good but the SQ makes up for any TT hate.

Edit: Would love to get a ST, but the mono hits pretty good.
Yea—the sound is great but certain albums flow are totally ruined by having to get up and flip mid song. Same feelings about the one step of What’s Going On. Sounds excellent but takes me out of the music too much mid song. Forgot the Ole 45 did that and that’s why I ended up trading it awhile back.

Wish ORG would repress more of their older catalogue. Know they likely lost the licenses but they did some amazing releases that I missed out on and can no longer afford…

This is difficult. In the beginning, ORG was Original Recordings Group, and did a range of titles, very eclectic, but focused strongly on audiophile 45rpm cuts. Then, the two partners split, presumably with some issues. That resulted in Original Recordings Group becoming separate from ORG Music.

Original Recordings Group sputtered along for awhile, with records already in the pipeline. Nothing new has come from them since 2019, and no repressings - I doubt they have any licenses of their own.

ORG Music also had part of the pipeline titles - Ole among them (Original Recordings Group had Coltrane Plays The Blues, probably that was part of the dividing of assets), and has continued, only rarely doing a 45rpm audiophile thing, but with a very wide, eclectic range of new recordings and reissues.

It is extremely unlikely that any pre-2017 title will get a repress.

None of the stores over here seem to have these Rhino ones at all listed for sale or pre. Strange because while we don’t always get the same mastering we usually get the same series. I’d have been tempted by the velvets and Otis too.

Broke down and bought the Billy Holiday one from old slow vape. The silly flat rate shipping made it more expensive than it should have been but it’s still cheaper and less hassle than from the US.

SYEOR is usually a brick and mortar US series I think. But Juno has started putting up some preorders for some of them it seems. VU seems to be the same mastering they have used for years. Otis is from the mono box set which I highly recommend if you can find for a decent price over there

They always used to also be brick and mortar over here too but occasionally had different mastering here like with lots of other Rhino stuff. This year it’s just not showing as being up for pre order or to buy from my local like it normally would. I rarely buy from outside my local, I just buy or pre order online and pick it up when I’m next there.

Wonder if it’s an allocation thing…I can’t remember them selling out as quickly as they have been this year. But allocation wouldn’t make much sense since EU and US are different pressings often…assuming you didn’t ask your local yet if they are getting them in?

I’ve not been in since before Christmas to be honest. I’ve nothing pre ordered till 20th and I’m trying to slow down the old buying 😂

Got the Dead’s “In The Dark” VMP press in this week and sat down to compare it with the original I have. Not even close.

Aside from the detail, this thing is booming! Hell In A Bucket never sounded so good. Love hearing little Jerry licks I’ve never really noticed in songs like “When Push Comes to Shove” and “West LA.” And Mydland’s vocals on “Tons of Steel” (which always reminded me of a perfect 80s sitcom theme song) is so distinct. Lastly, I think the drums have the best overall improvement here, much more out in front than the original.

They have really knocked it out of the park with all of their Dead releases, bodes well for Anthem.

I went with the Billy Cobham and the Yes. If there are any other stellar pressings y'all get from these let me know.
