Definitive Audiophile pressings

Have you been able to A/B the two?
yea that's why i'm so miserable!

just kidding. i can't afford the MMJ of Empyrean...BUT off the top of my head, i do have the BN Classic and the MMJ 33 of Inner Urge and I liked the MMJ better. If the price were to come into play, the BN Classic was something like $12 on sale from Plaidroom vs nearly $100 now for the MMJ and the MMJ isn't 9 times better. I also have a 1973 RVG Black B copy that sounds great and that one's even more expensive than the MMJ now on discogs I think.

And by and large i like the DBLPs better than any of these but it's not a fair fight because those are mono and I prefer the mono presentation on quite a few of those titles.

Inner Urge is the MMJ I have. Since I don't buy dupes (intentionally if I have what I consider a good sounding copy - although I am often tempted with the Kind of Blue UHQR but then that's a different beast - I do have different copies of different mixes of the same album) I have nothing to a/b it to except streaming and that shit ain't even in the ball park.

for some reason i didn't have the Inner Urge MMJ in my discogs and when i shopped a plaidroom sale I wasn't at home...so i ended up with the BNC as well. my problem is I buy what I think might be an upgrade to something, then never actually sell the copy I don't like as much....need to start to do that with a purge. there are a few I'll keep dupes of to have one copy upstairs and one downstairs since i'm a lazy bum.

The beauty of only having one system... lol

You should get the new EI. It's probably the best BNC yet. IMHO

The new Mac Miller Tiny Desk concert EP is a pleasant surprise. Cut by Bernie. It seemingly has RI and GZ runouts so maybe plated at RI and pressed at GZ? It’s such a good set—just wish it was longer. Was pricey for just a few songs but is probably one of my favorite Tiny Desk Concerts

I have Tina Brooks True Blue. I might still pick up the BNC version so I can listen to it properly. Anyone interested in a 2x45 MMJ copy?

the MMJs are better than the BNCs by a pretty wide margin

they just aren't $15,000 better haha. i guess if i just had $17K lying around in my couch cushions, I'd go for it!

From my experience, if you blind taste tested the MMJ (33s especially) and the BNC counterparts you would seldom tell the difference. Excellent sound quality on both. The MMJ jackets are much nicer though.

MMJs aren't really "nicer" than the Tone Poets either except the curation. And, well they did some SRX and 45 RPM titles, not just 33. Yes the SRX's and 45s are a little nicer.

MMJ + Tone Poets are pretty much the same team minus Ron so of course they sound pretty similar. But that's why this whole convo started--they don't seem to have any plans to reissue any MMJ titles as Tone Poets, which is a shame.

Yeah, Blue Train was about it. They started as "let's make music matters jazz titles of all these b-list, overlooked, unreleased titles"

it's more that Joe seemed to not wanna screw over Ron and copy the titles they had already done. Joe agreed to do Blue Train since they got to cut mono + stereo + those extra takes and it was different enough to the MMJs.

True. And MMJ was still around when Tone Poet started, no one was expecting MMJ releases in the Tone Poet line back then, now that they started the BN Classic Series and MMJ is basically kaput people kinda forget about MMJ I guess.

Screw Ron. Show me the money!
