Definitive Audiophile pressings

And while we're on this topic. The 2016 Parlaphone Ziggy has vanished and had seemingly been replaced with a digital remaster with different matrix using the same barcode. I cannot find the 2016 locally. Anyone have any ideas? I've emailed a cogs seller to try to confirm they actually have the 2016 and not the 2020 but no answer... Any of you see this one locally? I'm not sure there's any way to tell it's the 16 unless it's opened or the store can confirm it was ordered prior...

Okay how about this... Since you're local, and it's only single discs. Pack up the 3. I'll compare Station to the one I have and PIF the loser in the face off. Cool?

Sounds good! PM me your coordinates when you get a chance (I think I have them somewhere because of that Sleep Vault, but just to be sure).

(If you guys don't mind, I'll add it to the PIF spreadsheet so I can get credit in case I eventually want to pick something up).

One of my AP records from Acoustic Sounds arrived with a huge seam split. Emailed em asking for a replacement and they finally got back to me:

Sorry to learn of the defective record, but I do have some good news! Since this comes from our label, we happen to have extra parts available for it. No need to return the item -- instead, I will send out a replacement jacket and it should arrive to you as quickly as possible.

So I've done a bit of a shoot out:

edit - @Mather the results:

UK Legacy
1972 UK first press of Low - This was picked up for £3.99 for Oxfam (a UK charity shop), many years ago.
1982 Japanes pressing of Ziggy

1st up, the Legacy - sounds clean, flat records, no pops. Not very exciting really is my summary

Low - This copy needs another clean, it's quite beat up, lot's of pops, sound and vision has slightly more tone than the legacy version. Better than the legacy, but I need another copy

Ziggy - Wow, this is night and day, I'm listening to it again now & it sounds fantastic (I don't have the 2016 reissue to compare, that may be better). This has so much depth, funk, lovely pitch & energy. David's voice sounds full & exciting. Listening to the legacy edition, it's just so dull in comparison, it's like he is bored. It's flat, sounds like it's being played behind a curtain, you are missing so much of the sound on the legacy edition.

Just don't bother with the Legacy edition, it must be why I haven't listed to it since I bought it, it's just really dull.

They did this with me and my Somethin Else’ pressing which was like $80 from their store. I just wanted a jacket and they sent me a whole new one. Bless their hearts

I've only bought blu-rays from them. How's the record packing?
@Andy can answer better for international shipping. I don't remember packaging being particularly BAD but also don't remember it being amazing. My copy of Electric Warrior from them had a seam split on top but that kinda happens with most places these days even if things seem to be packaged well.

Other people may say different things. Doesn't look fantastic, but so far I have never had a problem, everything has arrived safely. Whereas every package I have had from Music Direct has ended up with dinged sleeves or warped records.

Deep Discount always send out the records as they arrive, so I have never had more than 2 or 3 records in a package from them, that may be why it works.

edit - they are defiantly the cheapest on international shipping as well

One good thing about the 2016 release is that it is a repress of the 2012 - which I is the copy I have.

If you need one you can try for that, too. It comes with a pretty nice DVD in 5.1

Tough call...there’s one on discogs that is $175 shipped from Canada that is make an offer. Could always try to offer $150 shipped or something and if not buy the other one.

I looked for close to a year. Bought one back in September and just looked it up—mine was $130 shipped from an eBay auction. It does seem that they are getting harder to find. You could take a gamble and wait and search a lot but I’d think at best you would save $20-30.
I scored an unplayed one on eBay for 89 plus 25 shipping (GBP). Felt like a reasonable price given what I saw around.

Thanks for yours and others' feedback!

I dunno if this counts, but I snagged the 1984 30th pressing that Chris Bellman over at Bernie Grundman mastering did his magic on. I’m telling you I hear new things I didn’t hear before from this pressing. I’m trying to look more into better quality pressings if I’m gonna drop $$$ on them.

The Van Halen? Yeah that's a good one. One of my best sounding records.
