Definitive Audiophile pressings

The Music On Vinyl pressing for Still Bill sounds very clean and detailed @Turbo, but like @Mather points out, it’s not as dynamic and doesn’t have that air/open soundstage to it, like the Speakers Corner Just As I Am has! I still recommend it because it’s still a pretty great pressing! It’s got like no surface noise too which is a bonus! I really want that album to get the 2LP 45RPM MoFi or Analogue Productions treatment though!

Hummm, Just As I Am is a pretty damn good record too. I just love "Who is he and what is he to you?" from Still Bill soooo much. Tons of other fantastic tracks on there too, but that bassline....

I’ve really gotten into New York too. Sucks the LP remaster is so expensive. Wish they did a version without the CDs and everything for cheaper.
Agreed, I was lucky enough to get this for my BDay, it's a great package but could have used a "simpler" offering as well because the pressing is fantastic.

Okay so, thoughts on this KPG Electric Warrior. From a person whose never heard this album on vinyl before, and honestly basically knows the hits and that's it.

I'm still gunna try to get the Mofi 45.

Here's why.

KPG is incredible at digging out detail in his mastering, I love his stuff because it's so neutral and also because it's just fantastically detailed and... precise? I guess? He can take old tapes and pull so much out of them. The only thing with this kind of mastering is... my system skews bright, it also digs out every last bit of detail in a pressing, so much so that something like that disastrous Moon Shaped Pool pressing actually sounds good on my system. However sometimes I can run into trouble when I come across an already very detailed pressing, that skews bright itself... I feel like that's what's happening here with this one. The mastering that really brings the fuzz and garage sound full front and is on the bright side, can just sound a bit harsh or... crunchy on my rig at times. I think it's a really good master, but I just think it's one that won't ever sound it's best on my rigs sound profile. Whereas I find with Mofi they tend to skew a little warm but also detailed, and the small details that this KPG already brings forth, my system will dig out of the Mofi on its own and keep everything sounding copacetic. So yeah... that's my thoughts.

I haven't heard the KG, but I agree with your overview. That being said, the MoFi sounds amazing, it does have a little warmth to it, but not at a muddy level, it's accurate in both sound and detail. The album itself is much stronger than just the hits in my opinion and is one that I would consider a "complete" album from beginning to end.

Yeah, the KPG is very bright, and I think it must be a function of the original tapes because I have an ORG that's a complete sibilant mess.

Oh for sure, like I've heard the album before, and I know it's a classic but I couldn't name more than like Jeepster, Bang a Gong and Cosmic Dancer...

And that's what I find with the newer Mofi mastering, it's not just smiley faced anymore obviously... It's got nice detail but maintains a warmth to it. That just works perfectly with my systems sound signature.

I have almost pulled the trigger on it multiple times with all those UDiscover and Target sales but it was never cheaper than $50 after sales. I would buy a $35 LP only package in a heartbeat.
