Definitive Audiophile pressings

I’ve seen this happen a bunch. Didn’t Lanois record Dylan digitally then mix/master it through an analogue console?

Apparently there are a few in the DSD realm that do it too. You can’t mix direct with DSD files so in fully digital chains they’re converted to PCM, mixed and then converted back. A few engineers who didn’t want to do that mixed the DSD recordings to tape and then when the mix was done on tape recorded it back to DSD.

Sure! That happens all the time, but typically you're sending those multitracks back into A>D conversion into Pro Tools. I suppose maybe they were going for the old school approach of printing a live mix to 1/4" tape? And then I guess they grabbed a 192 transfer of that 2 track mix off tape? Seems like a lot of back and forth, but hey, they made what might be the definitive guitar record of the 21st century, so whatever it takes!

Look at this in regards to the new Cure album. Mixed reviews on the pressings so far. I went with the 2xCD + Blu ray and waiting for it to be delivered today.

That's so odd that different colors would have different masters. I have the marble stone on the way but would love to hear thoughts of those who grabbed the half speed mastered to see if that sounds better

Limited discogs reviews mostly say half speed is the best pressing of the bunch (so far). But give it some time, sure there will be dozens of reviews there on the next week or so
