Definitive Audiophile pressings

Yeah completely. I mean agree with @Rowan on this one and his horrid character makes me not want to give him the benefit of the doubt. I find him to be one of those stunning musicians who isn’t that proficient a songwriter. I also think it falls squarely into my repeated criticism of mofi picking “safe” albums that aren’t special rather than taking an A&R risk from time to time.

That said if you enjoy it more power to you and there is no shame in that at all!
Oh, I'm with you to a certain extent, which is why I only have 3 of his albums. Not the end all be all, but talented non the less...........and I'm not ashamed at all ;)

.............this, I couldn't agree more on 🍺

I’m convinced MoFi is spending the majority of their time trying to figure out new ways to get people to buy Dylan albums. Supervinyl...then SuperDuper vinyl...then you gotta buy the single sided 45RPM

Actually, it all kind of seems like it's what they may or may not have licenses in place currently. It's definitely the "low hanging fruit" way of doing things to a specific customer base that, to a very large extent, looks at MoFi pressings as the definitive just based on the name on the jacket. All that being said, I wonder where all this will go, more so on the analog front when it comes to vinyl, with so many tapes lost at this point the shelves may be a little bare and or getting permission is going to get even more expensive.

Digital can be done well if they take the time to do so, if not, it's usually a hot mess.

This thread is dangerous.... since December, because of this thread, I bought:

The Doors "LA Woman" (2x45 AP)
The Doors "Morrison Hotel" (2x45 AP)
T Rex "Electric Warrior" (KG Rocktober Rhino)
Stevie Ray Vaughn "Soul to Soul" (2x45 AP)
Nine Inch Nails "With Teeth" (definitive edition)
David Bowie "Aladdin Sane" (2016 reissue)
Jimi Hendrix "Electric Ladyland" (Hendrix family edition)
Jimi Hendrix "Band of Gypsys" (Hendrix Family edition)
Bad Company "Bad Co." (2009 KG Rhino)
Grateful Dead "Workingman's Dead" (50th anniversary)
Grateful Dead "American Beauty" (50th anniversary)
Donnie Hathaway "Everything Is Everything" (Speaker's Corner)
Radiohead "The Bends" (2014 Parlophone)
Radiohead "In Rainbows" (2007 box set)

NO REGERTS!

The thing that’s most frustrating it’s that with all the gear Tim de Paravicini designed for them on both the analogue and DSD side they are the one bunch of feckers in a place to do it well. And never mind the tapes of the older stuff, if they want to have any kind of future going forward anything from the mid 90s onwards is highly unlikely to have been recorded on tape in the first place.

Let’s also not forget that they were happy to do Brothers In Arms, one of the most boring and safe picks anyone can do, and it’s infamously one of the very first albums to have been recorded to PCM digital.

Also they really are the dregs of the late 60s and 70s legacy artists that they can still get rights to. I mean who is going to buy a David Crosby solo one step? What is the target market for that?

Sent in a cancelation............have it and Pin Ups in my Walmart cart.
SOV (UMG) is digging in and not canceling my order, they say it's already been processed, but I can return it once it arrives. I call Bull Shit, I canceled it literally 5 minutes after placing it, which sparked my response to the email that I haven't EVER received a shipping confirmation from them in less than 2 days after placing an order.

To which I got this nugget -
Hello Anthony,

Thank you for your reply.

Orders for in stock items are sent to the warehouse for picking as soon as received to ensure the quickest shipping to customers. As advise on the Support Centre, we are unable to cancel an order once it has been processed I am afraid.

Many thanks,

My response, Fair enough, I’ll be curious to see how soon I receive my shipping notice.

Not the end of the world, I guess we'll see if they're the same pressings or not ;)

Have they done it? Where? I love that album (although I own a pretty decent copy already)

I honestly don't know - haven't looked. I'm surprised that wouldn't have been on the top of their list when they did all those H&O's...

Ahhhh ok, I totally understand where you’re coming from now! I’m not a massive fan, just a casual one but I’d like to get their debut on vinyl because I know it’s an iconic album! That’s good to know the MoFi pressing doesn’t far outweigh a normal pressing! I’ll still get the MoFi but that’s good info to know! 👍

Mmmmm interesting MoFi say that! Sounds like something VMP would say about their process or if they were to name a colour variant! 😂

Nathan, don't buy every platinum selling album. It's unsustainable. And definitely don't spend mofi for something you are just a casual fan of.

For Lou Reed "New York" in the US, it looks like there are a few different pressings from 1989 (Allied and Specialty Records seem like the main two). Do you have either of these that you'd recommend? I'm not familiar enough w/ the various pressing plants to know whether Allied or SRC or another version would be expected to be better (or the best). Thx
I have the SRC pressing. Not sure there’s any difference between them. I think you just want to make stuff that “DMM Masterdisk” is etched in the deadwax.
