Definitive Audiophile pressings

Curious about whether this Impulse! 60th series reissue series is one and the same with the Acoustic Sounds series. Seems like it is...but if that's the case, looks like we're getting:

Black Saint and the Sinner Lady
Sonny Rollins on Impulse!
Blues and the Abstract Truth
Out of the Cool
Karma - Pharoah Sanders
Journey in Satchidananda
Art Blakey !!!!impulse!!!!
Inception - McCoy Tyner

Plus some newer Impulse artists like Shabaka, Comet is Coming, Sons of Kemet, Ted Poor, Brandee Younger.

Are the newer artists being done in audiophile? Many of those could use an upgraded pressing...

Yea--part of me thinks they just put those album covers in because they don't have new album covers for the new releases. It would be interesting if they remastered + reissued them as @Mather was hoping because I think some of those pressings suck.
Yeah its a real shame. I really hope they release a live album some point in the future. Being local I have seen both groups quite a few times now (around 7-8 total) and they really outdo themselves each time. I recorded the audio of a Comet Is Coming gig a couple years ago (nothing fancy, just on an iphone) and I find myself listening to that more than their actual albums.

No clue. Also no idea if those are new albums or reissues of albums they have done in the past few years.

It led me down a rabbithole to find out that Blake Mills and Pino Palladino are releasing a collaborative album together which is amazing. The lineup on it seems great.

I have Sons of Kemet, We Out Here, Tom Misch & Yussef Dayes and a few of the Kamaal Williams... I'm very much enjoying this London jazz I'm hearing. So question for you: if I were to pick up a UK jazz record that has a superb-sounding pressing, which would you recommend? I've looked to get Theon Cross and Moses Boyd for example - how are the pressings for those?

The Theon Cross is especially good, really anything from Gearbox is superb. Gearbox also released Binker and Moses - Journey Into Forever is AAA and a really great sounding release.

I feeling rebellious. Is it possible for one to get a copy of Rage Agaimst The Machine’s debut that doesn’t sound like shit without selling a kidney?

I got this based on reviews from the Hoffman boards. Plan on breaking it open tomorrow. I have some Columbia repress compliations with a few of the songs on it so it will be fun to compare the two. Early Columbia recordings of Frank sounds like he was singing into a tin can.

Finally got around to listening to this today. It sounds great. Previous Columbia releases of Sinatra that I have sound muddy or like he's singing into a tin can. This sounds clean, bright, and very alive. If you're a fan of Sinatra, I highly recommend it.

Had a Barnes & Noble giftcard and have had Moondance on my wantlist forever so I ordered whatever they had in stock, knowing that the newer versions are from a digital version of the tape but have the same UPC. The one I got has KG@CA in the deadwax which I think means it is one of the AAA releases from a few years back. Am I right?

I believe what was stated in here is that the @CA is the digital and the older @ATM is AAA. Both are KG.

Ah ok. The Discogs page for 2020 pressing says it says @ATM which is why I presume that one was the digital

That's strange. I believe that is incorrect, as KG left AcousTech Mastering for his own venture, Cohearant Audio in 2010. Who knows though, maybe both plates are kicking around. All I personally can say for sure is that any plates that say KG@ATM are older than KG@CA.

one other thing that actually bothers be about ERC from what i am seeing

WHY THE FUCK WOULD A £300 VINYL RECORD BE STORED IN A GODDAMN PAPER SLEEVE.. I know they care about the "authenticity" and old timey accuracy but some things died out for a reason and paper labels on expensive releases is painful
