Definitive Audiophile pressings

KPG Abraxas just showed up from DD. Damned cheap paper sleeves look like they did the usual damage to the vinyl... I cannot stand that companies still use these things...
Yeah so, repetitive pops on several tracks due to scratches, likely due to the sleeves... It sounds very good, either way it's not good enough that I'm going to really sit in silence and really make a session of it, but it's good, it'll be on for dinner and parties... I'm checking with DD to see if they'll send a replacement though I'm sure it would have similar issues either way...

I have one of those on the way too.... fingers crossed.

Yeah it's nothing abnormal with these. It's just luck of the draw, but also the Black cart is a bitch with this stuff. The scratches are not big, but they're big enough to cause an issue for it...

The worst I had was my copy of Sault "Untitled (Black is)" that came from Germany. Had a bunch of spiral/scribble scratches on 3 of the 4 sides, with the one on side C being very audible. I'm suspecting the cheap paper inners. Luckily, it was fully reimbursed. So I basically have a free scratched but playable copy (that makes me wince when the Michael Kiwanuka part plays on side C). It's too bad, because that record sounds great otherwise. Anyway... damn those cheap paper inners.

Wait, I have the exact issue with my copy lol. I picked it up from my local recently and decided I'll just live with it. Don't want him to have to eat the cost for it, especially considering how few copies he got in store from the restock. Its a shame but whatever

Oh wow! It's crazy it would have happened to multiple copies.

This is what the worst of my scribble scratches looks like (ignore the dust since I hadn't cleaned the record yet, but at the same time that dust may have been part of the problem):

Yikes! No way that is from a paper sleeve.

I thought this recent scratch was from poor handling and got a replacement. To my surprise it had an identical scratch. I guess it must have been in the stamper or something. Stupid GZ.

Oh damn... so maybe a stamper/pressing defect affecting a whole batch? Would explain why HHV refunded without even requesting a photo. I don't think the Sault is from GZ... Optimal IIRC.

Hard to say without trying a second copy. Just thought I'd share my recent frustrating scratch issue because I was definitely not expecting the same result on the replacement!

Anytime I’ve had a scratch like that it was the result of a little bit of plastic inside the inner sleeve which I assume keeps scratching as the record vibrates around in shipping.

I'd grab this one but randomly found a really clean OG of it at a Half Price Books when I was visiting Dallas for $8! I think they thought it was a cheap repress since it's a pretty flimsy vinyl haha
I randomly came across a clean OG promo at one of those shops that won't price til you bring it to the counter (which I loathe). Somehow they sold it to me for $26, no idea how that was determined. I still need to do a comparison between the two and see if I have a preference.

Also, I love HPB just for those kinds of deals. I regularly pick up stuff like that cause they have no idea.

Today, on things I did not need to know about 😂😅

I wish I lived in a Japanese house though, love Japan so much 😍 eat ramen for breakfast and go digging in the afternoon 😂
Can I join you!!?!?! 😍🍜🏔⛺️⛩🍵🍱🍣🥃😍

I would love for us to crate dig together and eat well together (especially eating heaps of Ramen and sushi), whilst we crate-dig in Kyoto! We can also relax and have tea at some cute gardens and parks! 🌺🍁🌳😊
