Ghost
Original Resident Ghost
I’m quite the fan if I’m being honest. There’s something about his delivery that is really interesting and engaging to me, he reminds me a good deal of Bill Evans but with a bit more spring in his step if that makes sense. Out of the 4 I own of his I find myself spinning Scenery and Letter From Slowboat pretty frequently!I personally don’t get the Ryo hype. I mean I understand it was mostly YouTube algorithms that initially popularized em and the Scenery artwork is kinda cool but there are IMO lots more interesting/better Jazz pianists. I am not saying he’s bad it just all seems completely average. If I am reaching for a piano based jazz album on my shelf this would not be something I would reach for often, if ever. It feels like it’s jazz piano album for people that have never heard of Evans or Correa or Hancock or Monk or Hines, etc... and maybe it works a gateway for other better artists and if that is the case I guess that’s good. It just feels kinda basic.
Sorry, this rant is brought to you by the internet as a whole and not directed specifically at you, Mather. I hope your new records are as flat as a board and play flawlessly.
