Definitive Audiophile pressings

I personally don’t get the Ryo hype. I mean I understand it was mostly YouTube algorithms that initially popularized em and the Scenery artwork is kinda cool but there are IMO lots more interesting/better Jazz pianists. I am not saying he’s bad it just all seems completely average. If I am reaching for a piano based jazz album on my shelf this would not be something I would reach for often, if ever. It feels like it’s jazz piano album for people that have never heard of Evans or Correa or Hancock or Monk or Hines, etc... and maybe it works a gateway for other better artists and if that is the case I guess that’s good. It just feels kinda basic.

Sorry, this rant is brought to you by the internet as a whole and not directed specifically at you, Mather. I hope your new records are as flat as a board and play flawlessly.
I’m quite the fan if I’m being honest. There’s something about his delivery that is really interesting and engaging to me, he reminds me a good deal of Bill Evans but with a bit more spring in his step if that makes sense. Out of the 4 I own of his I find myself spinning Scenery and Letter From Slowboat pretty frequently!

I gave it a few tries and like I said, I don’t think it’s bad. He kinda sounds like a replacement level jazz pianist. He wouldn’t sound out of place at a local piano bar during cocktail hour; like it’s fine and inoffensive as background music but when I attempted to sit down and give it my undivided attention I found it kinda boring and kept losing interest. If everyone thinks he’s great, that is awesome maybe I am just missing something.

The Fukui titles are great.

I think I remember you mentioning that you have the 33 Time out? You'll have to let me know how the 45 Time Out compares to the 33

edit - is there a hidden message to dayMather with 'Fukui twice' & I need more 'Time Out'?
Yeah, I have the 33 and it's very good, it's got a few pops here and there and honestly since it's one of my favorite albums and since I've yet to come across a AP or Mofi 45 that doesn't pretty handily best the 33, I figured I'd give it a shot.

I have the 33 & I've been tempted by the 45. I'll probably do the same at some point.

I'm with @Ghost on this one, definitely not about it being inoffensive. I don't repeat listen to loads at the minute, but whenever I do pull out Scenery for a listen I really enjoy it. Definitely not the most boring title mentioned in the definitive Audiophile pressings thread. I've said it before, but if we all had the same tastes then all this music would very quickly become boring.

That could be a new fun thread, 'definitively boring vinyl pressings'.

I'm not going to lie, I've had those two Fukai on my list for ages. I didn't grab them early simply because they didn't grab me too much either, and they sold out. I've gone back and listened to them several times and while I don't find it earthshatteringly amazing it's nice music that I would put on during dinner. And if the pressings really are as good as the reviews say then it's an added bonus. These are I think the 140 gram represses without the obi. I was looking for something else to ship with the Time Out 45 in order to save on shipping costs and I saw these two. I know I need more Monk (have Criss Cross ORG press) and I have lots of Hancock, so I grabbed them because I figured meh, the pressing is supposed to be fantastic and if I don't like them they'll hold their value and I'll just unload them.

I'd love to get your feedback once you have the compare. I've got the AP 33 and I've definitely been curious

For sure, from what if read they're very close, but the 45 has the usual wider stage and slightly more dynamic sound. The only 33 AP that I haven't tried to upgrade is the Headhunters because honestly I can't imagine it sounding any better. I think that's the best sounding press in my collection.

It's frustrating that they don't seem to ship to the UK at the minute.
While this is a bit of unintentional salt in the wound perhaps....

ummm, does anyone have a feel for their grading? i.e. VG+ no clicks and pops vs. VG+ sad face crushing disappointment?

That TO AP 45 is one of the best sounding of my collection. Didn't hear the 33 so can't compare.

The next MoFi titles to get a repress seem to be:

Iron Butterfly - In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida 1xLP - 34.99

Miles Smiles 2x45 - $49.99

B-52s self-titled silver label - 24.99
That's interesting, I thought the Iron Butterfly was limited to 3000. Maybe they didn't press 3000 right off the hop? I wonder if this means Cash will reappear too...

It's Acoustic Sounds that is selling these directly on discogs. So I'm sure they'd take care of you if it's bad.

I got the American Woman Cisco pressing from them and there was nothing at all wrong with the sound. It had the weird white streaks that some of those Cisco pressings had, but it was just visual and DNAP. They marked it VG+

I believe they said Cash is a goner now. But who knows anymore! They do tend to do batches of pressings instead of doing all at once, although that seems to be changing. The latest SRV One Step was supposedly done all at once.

Wonder if they’ll repress the 33.... would ideally like one not in VG+ condition
Wouldn't be surprised if they repress it but I think it's been a minute since they had it in stock on their site. I'd personally be surprised if the pressing is beat up or anything or really affects play...it's Acoustic Sounds doing the grading and they seem fairly conservative. But I hear ya on being wary of it. I think I saw that they playtest everything but could be wrong. I personally don't care a TON about the seam split on jacket but I know most people would.
