Definitive Audiophile pressings

And....How was your experience with Jump into the Fire? Did it fully meet your wants and needs ;)
My only complaint was that I couldn't turn it up louder because my wife was sleeping. It sounded fantastic. I'd say that's one of the more dynamic Mofi 45s I've heard. I think part of the size of the sounds comes down to his vocal mic on a bunch of the tracks where it's not mixed centre, but rather left and right stereo so it fills the whole room with his voice.

It's such a fun album and you can really tell why he was the Beatles favorite American songwriter.

The new St Vincent is a Chris Bellman cut and pressed at Pallas. It sounds really great and made a better impression on me playing it on vinyl compared to the stream.

First thing I noticed when I received it yesterday but I've yet to spin it. Surprised me because the discogs said GZ. But the deadwax clearly indicates Pallas, so I updated the entry.

High praise for the new UHQR Kind Of Blue.

Jumping into the fire as we speak, sounds incredible so far!

It's still available, I wonder how long it will take to sell out the 25k

My take is a bit different. Definitely sounds great, but a bit like it's right on the verge of clipping (might have been to your advantage that you couldn't turn it up!), and flirting with some sibilance, which I noticed most on 'Without You.' I don't doubt that this is as good as it can sound, and the vocals are in the room.

I’m thinking about starting to dip my ties into the Bowie releases...are the newer releases worth getting sound wise or do you recommend other releases?

The newer releases are great and not expensive. @jamieanderson1968 can confirm, but I think many were AAA too. Definitely a great place to start.
Yes the recent reissues (starting with the 2016 boxset) are all uniformly excellent. I think most are AAA.

The one to watch for is Heroes. Too long to go into, but they had to do a patch job on the tape and it was noticeable in the first pressing. This was on purpose. They did replace the box set copies but all individual retail ones have the same drop out. It is not glaring but if you have listened to the song a thousand times, you will hear it.

There are excellent older pressings but there are so many you will go nuts chasing them all down.

Edit: there is also a teeny bit of tape flutter on the reissue of Hunky Dory. I hear in on Changes (with headphones, listening really hard) and others say they have heard it on Andy Warhol. But it is not terrible or intrusive.

Yes I agree with that to a degree but I kinda just assumed that's the OG recording coming through. It's dynamic but the fidelity isn't crystal clear, but I just put that down to the sound of the album, it wasn't glaring to me. But that's in line with something like Electric Warrior which is also dynamic AF but it's got a fair share of sibilance. From what I've read the "edginess" of the sound on the Nilsson album is pretty much just down to the original recording. But again, no personal knowledge of that...

Yes, agreed, and Electric Warrior is a great comparison. It's not glaring, it's just there.

I still can't decide whether I like the KPG or the Mofi 45 Electric Warrior better. But even with the sibilance I lean towards the 45 simply because of the wider stage and more punchy dynamic sound. I'm a sucker for that stuff. If the album already has some roughness to it, and it's never going to sound perfect (like EW) then gimme the big sound and the punchy dynamics all day even if it includes some sibilance...

Urghhh brilliant. Yeah I ordered direct.

Yeah, give them a message. They told me they haven't figured out how to add the tax, so put my order on hold until they sort out the system, alternatively if your order is above £135 (or there about), they will send it but you will become liable for import duty.
