Definitive Audiophile pressings

Okay great thanks, that's the one I had kinda targeted. To be honest now that I have the comp I will LIKELY hold off just because I have limited space and these 3 discs probably fills my necessary quotient for Ambient Japanese Music on vinyl between the years of 1980 and 1990. But if the pressing is a total disaster then maybe I'll try my luck with that copy of Green.
I have this one…

What’s strange is I received my copy at the end of July but it seemed like I was one of the few that got it that early. Most of the people I’ve talked with didn’t get theirs until we’ll into autumn. My copy is absolutely flawless and sounds great but clearly there was an issue somewhere along the way where lots of people had issues.

Yeah black vinyl, I actually can’t remember the sleeves. I want to say poly liner paper sleeves ?

Yeah from what I read it seems like coming out of the plant early they were okay. Not sure if it was a bad storage issue or what. But they seem like quite the lottery.

So @Mather @jamieanderson1968 @Turbo do i get an honourary Canadian citizenship for picking up a copy of this…

I loved this album in high school and it really holds up well (the pressing sounds great, BTW) For one reason or another BV3K never really caught on down here in the States.

It passed the other side of the pond though. Great album if I remember correctly. I'll listen to it now!

I actually bought both the deluxe and standard Loveless since I'm a crazy person and thought it would be fun to A/B them. I also want to see if my ears can actually tell the difference between AAA and hi res. I don't have either yet and probably will take some time coming over from across the pond.
Finally got around to comparing the two today. Overall, they sound remarkably similar. The AAA pressing has a little more air around the vocals (particularly Belinda’s) and the buzzsaw guitars are little less harsh on (most prominent on Touched and To Here Knows When). That’s pretty much all I heard. Also, there’s no way in hell I could pick which I was listening to without hearing them in direct comparison.

They’re both amazing. They got the Beatles treatment at Optimal (they can apparently press flawlessly when they want to). No noise or pops at all. The deluxe has the tip on, but the regular is sturdy glossy board with the same shiny (not quite foil) ink of the deluxe.

So, overall:
  • I now really have no idea these why these are different.
  • Don’t knock yourself out tracking down the AAA if its harder to find or significantly more expensive than the regular.
  • My ears are still ringing. Fucking Loveless 😂

Loved that record! Jean Leloup does a song on it too IIRC. Damn, I need this.

Haha! I knew my bros to the North would share in my joy! Put on BV3K, follow it up with Odelay, Fantasma, some Hello Nasty, and Since I Left You…Now, all I need is for someone to reissue Cornershop’ When I Was Born For The 7th Time and I’ll be set.

As much as any Hardcore album can be “Audiophile” I can’t imagine any pressing of Bad Brains self-titled debut topping this ORG reissue. This if great especially for like $20 retail.
You mean you have it? Awaiting my shipping notice from their store.

The summer that came out, I would alternate between that and OK Computer. I know, different styles... but those two records were my go-tos for a few months (in 1997 I guess?).

Check out Jean Leloup's "Le Dome" when you get a chance (he does the french vocals on Forest and Bran Van contribute to La Chambre and Johnny Go on Le Dome).

Discosis has a great Curtis Mayfield and and and a Kool Moe Dee that I'm still a sucker for :)

Will do! Never heard any of it beyond the BV3K stuff.

That album is right in the style of the others you mentioned above, but in french (mostly - I Lost My Baby, the most popular track on the record, is in both French & English to match the theme of the song). His other records are solid as well, but in different styles. The CD only comp Je Joue De La Guitare is a good place to dig deeper.

Edit: also his photo on the cover of that comp is an epic rock & roll shot.
