Definitive Audiophile pressings

Welp, just grabbed the KOB Mofi 45 box, Pet Sounds AP Stereo 45 and the Ella and Louis AP 45. I've got the Pet Sounds AP 45 mono already but I suspect I will prefer the stereo.

And as much as I'd like to try the UHQR 33 or 45. The 33 is double the price and the 45 will likely be at least triple... CANNNO DOOOIT

I reached out to Acoustic Sounds about replacing my Kind of Blue UHQR since it has lots of noise. They said it would be a couple weeks till they got the replacements in but I can send the defective one back. Do I trust them to send me one?

What do you think about me starting with Harvest and After The Gold Rush ?
I can probably do one more next month without killing my Want List /budget if you have another bargain out there ?
Obviously, it’s a personal preference kind of thing but those two are both fantastic albums. If I was putting together a NY starter pack I would probably include After The Gold Rush and Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere.

Do you think Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere will be repressed soon ? It seems to be out everywhere I checked now.

Those are probably not as hard to find as Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere. They all get repressed eventually but that one has been harder to get. Harvest, After the Gold Rush are good starters along with EKTINW (if you can find it, though vintage early 70s copies are easy to come by and sound great). Highly recommend On The Beach and Tonight's the Night after those.

Wanna switch? I have to place an order they can ship the replacement with and destroy the record (not the box) i have haha

I have no problems with a 70's copy (if you have seen my collection), great reminder, thanks!

You’ll have to because I doubt they’re going to send you a replacement unless they get the original back. And since they’re pressing so many of these, I don’t think there’s much risk of missing out. They seem very good at keeping their word.

I just found AtGR on The Sound of Vinyl, and there’s a 25% sale going on too.

Also, if you’re interested, I’ve got an older pressing of Harvest I’d be willing to PIF your way. If not, no worries, the newer pressings are fantastic.

Repress preorder is back up

I would. If it's got lots of noise it's probably not worth keeping anyway.

Bit worrying really for this press (I'm still waiting for my copy). I take it you have given it a good clean?

Too many people are complaining and getting new copies, then flipping their “damaged” copies for $100+. That’s why AS changed their policy. Not saying there aren’t issues with the pressing but I have seen people on Reddit/Hoffman complaining about similarly priced pressings because they had one pop on one song, then getting a replacement and selling their old copy for more than they paid while downplaying any issue suddenly “has one small pop on one track but otherwise NM”. Mine had a few pops and ticks but a cleaning and hitting it with the zero stat helped get rid of nearly everything.

These things are expensive so it makes sense that people want perfect copies. I’m surprised there were as many issues as people have reported since AP is usually great at QC. On the other hand, for cheaper pressings, costs are just going to keep going up with so many people returning items. Unless QC gets stepped up at all these plants, I can’t imagine what records are going to cost within a few years…
