Definitive Audiophile pressings

I was just looking at my NY collection, and while I have nothing on @Yer Ol' Uncle D I have 14 studio albums (12 on wax and 2 on cassette), 7 live albums, and The Bridge Tribute album. There is definitely more I want to add.

While TLK may have nothing on me, let's be clear that I have nothing on sanity.

The first step is admitting I am powerless over Neil Young...

Those of you that own the Kankyo Ambient box set from LITA. Have any of you tried to get a download code out of them? I'd love to get this digitally too.
Haven’t tried. But I know from a couple other situations they don’t or sometimes can’t clear or license each type right.

Has anyone picked this up? Mastered by Kevin Gray in mono from the original analog tapes (not sure if that means AAA or if there’s a digital step).
What a hall of fame list of Brill Building/Tin Pan Alley songwriters there!

Hopefully in ultra 4K HD Blu-ray so you can truly appreciate that 8 ball of coke hanging out of neil’s right nostril.

From Ronnie Hawkins... I came out to San Francisco for The Last Waltz rehearsals and personally witnessed the suitcase of 30K of Cocaine. When I tasted it I said be careful there's so much flour in that you might sneeze a loaf a bread ! So they went out and bought another one for 30K.

I'm fairly certain that one is AAA, as the Milt Jackson/Ray Charles Soul Brothers release has the same hype sticker, also mastered by KG, and that one is definitely AAA. They both sound amazing, very highly recommended.
Got the Milt & Ray the other day and spun it last night. Very nice, but damn that sleeve is tight, a real struggle to get the record back in.

I bought Live at the Cellar Door from my local yesterday (sealed copy for $26, well below the Discogs going rate), and ordered Return to Greendale from Amazon given the all-time low price ($15 and change). I know the latter is far from essential but the only time I saw Neil live was during the Greendale tour, so it was a nostalgia pick for me.

Next on my list are Hitckhiker (I slept on it when it was dirt cheap) and maybe Roxy. Hopefully there's a Ragged Glory reissue in the pipeline.

Nice! I have Cellar Door and Roxy both are great. I need to grab American Star ‘N Bars, that’s the next one on my list.

Ragged Glory isn't too far away.

Oh yeah! Lots of great upcoming NY releases on the horizon. I picked up Ragged Glory and Freedom on cassette recently but will definitely upgrade to wax once they are reissued. Also will be grabbing Weld and depending on the price tag probably Arc as well. I will need the details on the live releases but I suspect I will end picking up quite a few of those too.

Greatest Hits albums are rarely, if ever, AAA as it is necessary to assemble each track from the individual original reels. Possible, but time consuming and costly.

It is more likely, if AAA, that it was taken from a second or third generation tape assembled from the original tapes back in the day.

Not that it matters if it sounds good.

I’ve never listened to a Neil Young album 😬
Here’s the thing; Neil Young is one of my all time favorite artists. From a musical standpoint, there is something for everyone; he is both a quiet folkie singer/songwriter and a rip-roaring guitar god and everything in between. The fact that he has been adventurous and diverse with the music he makes has kept his discography interesting and essential throughout his career. The biggest complaint I’ve heard from NY detractors is is vocals. Many simply do not enjoy the timbre of his voice and if that’s the hang up then you might as well move on.

TL; DR: Neil is great! Well worth checking out.

I really have only heard a few of his most famous songs which I've really enjoyed. I first got really motivated to check him out after that scene where John Krasinski and Emily Blunt are dancing to Harvest Moon in A Quiet Place, I thought that was beautifully done, but I didn't really know where to start so I checked out Harvest which was meh. Point me in the right direction lads, fwiw I'm more interested in his soft folky stuff than his guitar god stuff, at least right now.
