Definitive Audiophile pressings

Interesting enough rhe Surrealistic Pillow MOFI hasn’t impressed me much. I’ve been a bit underwhelmed by it, still kind of feels like a big cacophonous master. Maybe mine is in need of a good clean, who knows?

I have only spun an original, but I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't a ton of audiophile-ness to the original mix. Doesn't mean there wasn't room for improvement master-wise though, it's all relative.

That’s what I figured, I’ve never heard a copy that sounded very open. So I suppose it’s pretty good all things considered, it’s just not going to sound like the Grateful Dead mofis

I mean it's probably like Cream "Disraeli Gears". I've got the Abbey Road Half Speed, I don't know that it's ever sounded better, but it's still a featureless wall of sound.

Well it's a mono, but on my system anyway the drums are punchy and kick total ass on songs like Somebody to Love and She Has Funny Cars. Sounds like never before. The jangly guitar soars above everything in the mix, it's so fantastic. Having dead quiet background on the two side B ballads is a great thing too that's hard to find on old scratchy used copies.

Was looking for some sleeves for the One Steps and came across these:

They are not conducive to taking the boxes in and out, but I ended up taking the records and sleeves out of the boxes so I will listen to them more. The boxes are pretty nice though if anybody is looking for something similar! They are thicker plastic with a flap that folds in and locks on top and bottom.

Yep I’ll second your observations. I have a pretty beat original mono copy and the MoFi is better but not by a huge margin. It is probably impossible to find a NM original pressing though and the MoFi is indeed dead quiet.

Just opened my Mingus One Step. Would you believe it's missing both the glossy photos that were supposed to come with it? And check out the numbering...View attachment 79470
Like seriously, this is all part of some cosmic joke right?
I can no longer tell if you're doing a bit or if you really just have such awful luck with warping and bad packaging hah.
