Definitive Audiophile pressings

Oh yes, first One Step disc is totally dished. Didn't even bother to mention it because of course it is.
If it makes you feel better (don't see why it would, but who knows?) side one has a dish warp too. I don't think I have the pictures as well. I'll check tonight. Didn't even realize it was missing until you mentioned it!

Well that would be interesting, if it's a wider issue with the photos. Also both my discs are in fact dish warped. I can flatten with my clamp but I mean honestly, how can they even attempt to to maintain this facade of quality with two dished vinyl in the set... and 2/5ths of the set missing. Bonkers.

If you already have the 2x45 I would give it some thought on the One Step KoB. I've bought a lot of the One Steps (BOTT, Gaye, Fragile, Monk's Dream, Ah Um) over the years (and the Axis Bold as Love QRP UHQR).

For some of the records I have multiple of, they are the best pressing I have; for some, it's debatable. Honestly, the Sterling all-analogue REs of Axis (mono/stereo) are almost, if not as, good as the UHQR (albeit w/ different qualities) and asks if the $100 vs. $20 (keeping in mind you won't get it for retail anymore) was worth it.

I actually prefer my non-One Step of Yes' Fragile from 2016 (Kevin Gray, analogue master).

So, having already paid ~$60 for the 2LP 45RPM MOFI will it be worth paying $125 for another 2LP 45PRM from MOFI? Will it be remastered, superior engineers working on it; or just different laquers and 'roided up vinyl??? I haven't made up my mind myself yet. I just think these are good questions to ask. 'Cause most likely they'll be gone before release date and anyone gets the chance to compare the two. Right now, I'm, personally, leaning toward not picking it up. I have the MOFI, another Columbia pressing, and the MOFI SACD. At some point, I have to throw my hands up. Then again, when it's in my shopping cart and it's just so easy to click checkout - well, that's a different story.
Was thinking if I should grab that One Step of SRV Couldn't Stand The Weather while it's still around. Then I realized it's available from AP as well, for half the price. I think in general, if a title is available from OS or UHQR but also from regular 2x45 MoFi or AP, I'd go for the regular one.

All day every day. I mean this Mingus sounds good. But does it sound $230 CAD good? No. It sounds about $100 CAD good. Which is about the same price as a 2 LP 45 AP title up here.

Well just for the record, Mofi were completely useless and sent me two form letters claiming they are too small of a company to actually give any customer support unless you buy directly from them. Which I think might be illegal. This is the nonsense that they sent me after I asked them for two photos, I didn't even bother with the fact that both discs are dish warped.

"We do apologize for any frustration. As much as we would like to, we are simply too small of a company to handle all Mobile Fidelity returns and exchanges from all of our worldwide vendors. This is a standard policy for many retail industries and one that we do believe is fair. In the future if you were to purchase all of your Mobile Fidelity products direct from Mobile Fidelity or our sister company Music Direct, we can be much more helpful with any problems you run into."

Anyhow this is what I sent back:

"Don't worry. The fact that my simple request to rectify YOUR COMPANIES error has been met with two completely unhelpful form letters means I won't be purchasing a single thing from Mobile Fidelity after today. And I'll be sure to pass this information on across the various vinyl forums and social media platforms I'm a part of so vinyl collectors are aware of how your company shirks all responsibility for their own products, and how completely unhelpful CS is in actually providing customer support. So thanks, in the long run this will save me a lot of money. This is by far the worst support for a faulty product I have ever come across. So congratulations to Mobile Fidelity on finishing first place in that race to the bottom.

Cheers,
Sam Lackey"

Small company my arse. Owned by music direct and with both significant music and electronics arms. Really unimpressive.

Isn't it possible that the vendor you purchased from is responsible? Could it be a return that they then repackaged and re-sold? One of the photos you shared looked like the number on the box had been changed, and that wouldn't make any sense unless there was activity of some sort after the point of original sale. It would be nice to know if MoFi believes there's no way your box left their factory/warehouse incomplete, or whether they just don't really care what happens once another retailer takes over.

Yeah no, it was sealed. Mofi did say that they reuse boxes at the factory that's why there's two numbers. Which again, for a supposedly premium product ARE YOU KIDDING ME? It was totally sealed and had the Mofi One Step sticker etc. Definitely came this way, the store recieved them from Mofi the same night I bought it. They know it's their fault, they just don't care.

Got it. Yeah, that totally sucks.

So, as I suspected, I don't have the photos either. I have 2 pieces of foam, the 2 discs and pieces of cardboard (original artwork and OneStep process). I bought mine directly form MoFi about 2 weeks ago. I'll shoot CS an email, we'll see what they say. Definitely will also complain about the dish warp, which for this price shouldn't happen.

That's wild, yes please tell me what they say. I'm sorry you're in the same situation. @marshall is going to get me professionally printed copies of the photos in his set. Should be a piece of cake for a printing house to copy them. If Mofi is totally useless let me know. Would probably cost about $1 to get 2 copies made.

Haha, if you didn't complain about it I wouldn't even have realized they were missing! I have to say the photos don't bother me as much as the warp, and I'm not sure they have copies left to send a replacement. Oh, well, we'll see...

Yeah well I can flatten the warps with my clamp, and potentially permanently with my Furutech but I'm not certain if the One Steps are okay to be flattened in terms of the melting point of the vinyl ingredients. I think it should be fine but I'm not really keen to melt a $200 album. But it's infuriating that they're warped at all.

My record weight can flatten the convex side, but there's nothing it can do about the concave side unfortunately. I'd be cautious with a flattener also, these super vinyl are supposed to be a bit different than the usual black vinyl. At least it's only disc 1 that is warped and I don't think it affects the sound.
