Definitive Audiophile pressings

That's where I got mine a couple weeks ago. Surprised they still have 'em. They even shipped it with the records outside the sleeve (with my permission). It's a killer sounding record, must've played it 10 times since getting it after never hearing of it.
Surprised Truth is selling for $150+ while Nilsson sounds absolutely incredible and somewhat affordable (85 on Discogs still or available closer to MSRP). It really is an amazing pressing

I feel like the way they dropped Truth out of the blue triggered over the top FOMO and half the people buying it are just trying to flip it. It's ridiculous. Meanwhile I would just like an affordable copy to listen to! Keeping tabs on multiple sites for when the next batch shows up.

I’ll tag ya or try to buy a copy if I see one for ya!

That would be much appreciated 😁 I'm hoping PlaidRoom and some other locals get them in soon. It says there's a street release date for 8/13 when you look it up, but I'm not sure how accurate that actually is.

Honest opinion, I picked up an early repress of Nilsson Schmillson a few months back, listened a couple times and enjoyed but didn't really pick back up. But the general consensus is that the MoFi turns water into wine and wine into liquid gold...is it a necessary purchase territory if i liked but don't love NS?

MOFI is releasing them in batches which is part of the problem. No idea how many of the 5K are available keeping the prices up. I'm trying to find a copy to spin too, hopefully they will settle down around $100.

Can't imagine it will make you love the music, but you will love how it sounds. In other words, based on your comment, I doubt you'd pick it up more except to hear how good something can sound.

I think if you don't love the album, doesn't make sense to pay the $65+ for it. Not sure about you but shelf space is at a premium over here so I'm trying to buy albums I'll spin a lot lately over stuff that I just sort of enjoy. The stuff I enjoy goes on my digital streaming library instead.

Love your posts Crabbers and not trying be a dick but just to let others know the original pressings are great too for much less if you like digging.
As someone who loves Tea for the Tillerman, I had an original and the AP33 and the AP33 is a much nicer and better sounding pressing. I imagine the 45 is as nice if not nicer. I ended up giving away the OG i had to my buddy who just got a record player. I didn't pay as much as @Crabbers but for an album that I listen to a lot, the AP is really awesome.

I mean, I was familiar with maybe half the songs on the album before picking this up. Loved Jump into the Fire and liked the others ones. This pressing is an absolute revelation and really makes everything about this album just leap out of your speakers. But again, it really would depend on how much of a system you're running in terms of how impactful it's gunna be and whether it's worth the extra cash. It's one of, if not my #1 reference album to show off what vinyl can sound like. The drums and bass in Jump into the Fire are earth shattering. But I'm also running a pretty beefy system with a 800 watt sub (at like 15% level) to fill in the bass and with this pressing your ribs shake.
I guess all I'm saying is l was not at all expecting this to become a go to album in terms of showing off my system and for me it was worth every penny. But your mileage my vary for sure.

This is how I feel about the Beck - Truth release. Every Picture Tells a Story gives me my fill of Rod Stewart because beyond that one great (in my view) record, I really don't like his voice. I had a shot at purchasing Truth earlier in the week and almost did just because of the hype, then reigned myself in (and spent the money on new music instead!). The reality is it's not worth it if you don't like the music, IF you're in this for the music. (I'm sure I'm not alone here in looking at my buying habits and wondering sometimes what my motivations actually are.) Of course, if it was the sound of the repress you didn't care for rather than the music itself, that would be a different story altogether.

You all will probably appreciate this story. I met this guy on vacation and we were talking about records. He showed me a photo of his system and it looks like one of those space age turntables that are 7 inches thick. He also had a ultrasonic record cleaner so he had a pretty heavy investment I think. He only has about 100 records, mostly the high end classic rock stuff. I was taken aback a bit that someone would spend thousands and thousands on a system and have only 100 records. He just got some Japanese OG press of a Bread album and was telling me how incredible it sounded and all I could think of was "well, it's still BREAD." To each their own and I'm glad it makes him happy, but I thought the whole thing was kinda bonkers.

Oh, that's cousin Dale. I'm... I'm nothing like him.

Have I told you about my cables?

HERE LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT MY CABLES IT ALL STARTED ONE DAY WH-

To each their own indeed! But yeah, that's funny. And as far as I'm concerned it's always nice to run into someone I can think of as a bit crazier than I am where this record stuff is concerned. :p

Hey-- I kinda respect the restraint. Now if all 100 records were Bread...that's a whole other kinda crazy.

I tried searching for these but it seems too short for the search engine - anyone compare the B-52 MoFi’s with earlier pressings? They seem to be on the cheaper side of MoFi’s.

@MikeH, based on your avatar, you may know a thing or two about the B-52s 😂 man, I love that skit

Despite the avatar, I don't own any B-52s haha. But from what I've heard, only the OGs use the master tape, so people seem to like those if you can still find clean copies for a good price. I think the B-52s are silver label so they didn't use the master tape since I think they were destroyed/lost.

Cool, thanks! That makes sense.
