Definitive Audiophile pressings

I could be dead wrong, but I would question if that clip is of the actual album regardless of the claim and or the sound quality. I went ahead and bought 3 albums just to see for myself, grading is a pain in the ass for buyers, we all know that. Playback is also a mixed bag when it becomes minimal, meaning, your system has a lot to do with what you may or may not hear, do you clean your vinyl, etc...

Arriving today, so we'll see, but I get your point @Mather.

On a side note, how hung up are you on having an OBI, I honestly could care less, but I was just curious.
The only reason I think the clip is of the actual album is I listened through several clips of different copies of the same album and they were different. If it's not of the actual album then I have no idea why they'd be using a poppy needle drop as their default recording and not just a digital rip of the original song. But who knows.

Yeah, I've listened to a few purportedly different clips of different copies of the same LP, and they sounded like the same clip, right down the the tiny clicks. So I wouldn't trust those. And just as they don't play-test most of their records, they also don't clean them.

I don't care about the OBIs at all. I'm buying these to play, not to flip.

This is what has stopped me from ordering from them. I appreciate that they have actual play test clips on some of their albums. But these are EX rated albums and the play test clips I've listened to are all VG at best. I appreciate these are older albums, but EX is EX, doesn't matter the age. That's basically a mint rating and they are certainly not playing anywhere in the vicinity of mint. Of the ones I've heard.
I ordered 3 albums last night, all from 81 and 82. From what I have read the quality of pressings in Japan in the late 70s and early 80s were quite good. I will know soon enough.

Hmmm, maybe I'm wrong, I could have sworn they were different clips. But anyhow, I'm enjoying reading these reviews because there were definitely a bunch I was looking at on there so I'm certainly curious.

One thing is for sure, you need to pick up 3-4 albums to make it worth while............not that anyone around here would EVER have a problem doing that ;)

Same! Only my shipping notice came yesterday and somehow they are out for delivery today.
I think the notice is generated once the package hits the local end and clears any postal service regulations. I got mine a couple days ago, today it's out for delivery, but I also got a notice stating it "cleared local regulations" or something to that effect.

Either way, quicker than a lot of vendors stateside ;)

Seems like for Canada 4 is the sweet spot with shipping. The price difference for shipping was about $1 difference between 3 and 4 lps
My latest order, arriving today, is five LPs for about $20 shipping. I have another five in my cart and shipping is showing as $20 again. Adding a sixth LP bumps it up to around $35, so I'd recommend adding/removing LPs to get the best rate per LP. Notably, they also appear to give a percentage discount on the base shipping rate based on the price of the LPs.

Yeah, initially I thought the shipping charge was based on number of records/weight, but it appears to be based on overall cost, so with my current cart, I was able to add a 5th album (only $6.94) without affecting the $19.50 shipping rate for the 4 albums already in the cart. It's worth playing around with what's in the cart (I have been moving stuff to 'favorites', which are accessible as a separate tab within the cart screen and easily moved back and forth between the two).

I'd be interested to hear what they sound like.

For me, OBI is a nice to have, most important is good sounding vinyl, I can live with a torn sleeve or no OBI, but everything in minty fresh shape is great. If I had tons of cash I would probably only by mint items

edit - when I say mint I mean top condition, not sealed as in the vinyl grading sense

I'm not even drunk, you bastards!

Less than £100 the lot. I needed to clear up space in my basket to see how I could order some Stevie. (We don't often talk classical, but if anyone is looking to get some classical records, I would say record city is the place to go).

Hopped on the Record City train, ordered four Beatles albums to upgrade my shitty recent represses (Abbey Road, Peppers, Mystery Tour, and Let it Be). If they’re anything remotely better, I’ll probably just sell my newer pressings and make back what I paid for the Japanese pressings.

Was looking at some Floyd pressings but wanted to check out the “cheaper” stuff first. If I’m happy with it, will probably go back for some more. Excited about these!

These fevers spread fast around here! LOL

Indeed they do!

It was kind of perfect timing for me. I was really over the Beatles for the last few years after spending so much time listening to them when I was younger. But recently I’ve been going back to them and appreciating more of the music. I had a lot of the 2012 represses from when I first started collecting but they’re nothing special. The one that wasn’t was a Japanese pressing of Revolver that my now fiancé gave me for my birthday when we were in high school. It’s one of my favorite records (for sentimental reasons too) and now that I’m slowly going back to listening to more Beatles albums figured it would be a good time to see what all the fuss is about.
