Definitive Audiophile pressings

I have the Aretha box but not listened to it that much. I had the CD of out takes when that was issued and used to really like that. (Along with the extended Filmore concert which has some better takes than the ones released on the album).

If you don't have the albums it's a great set, I just checked the dead wax because I didn't realise any of it was Bellers or Boom Boom. I'll give it another listen but didn't get the impression of an audiophile set but sounds ok.

Aretha Arrives is a (mono) KG cut (I might not have even played this yet)
Lady Soul is a (stereo) CB cut.

But the rest are done why someone else, I'm not sure what these initials are, maybe on of you has the answer:

edit - this comp sounds amazing, KG remastered mono singles & can be had very cheaply

The standard pressings of those are pretty great too, that said I’m sure they’re identical but just broken up out of the box. I was definitely pleasantly surprised given that of the Aretha albums I own only the two VMP ones cost me more than €17!

It's still available and it's a great deal. In case anyone is interested, the copy I received fits this discogs listing perfectly:

According to this it was pressed at RTI and I can believe that because it sounds great, it's flat and it's quiet. At approximately $17 shipped, I'd suggest this is a no-brainer if you've been happy to pay $34-$50 and beyond for your jazz fix.

Amazon product ASIN B000000YIS
I also received the Oliver Nelson Verve Acoustic Sound Series album in the same shipment. Both records were individually packaged in tight cardboard mailers placed inside a larger box. There's something about just handling those AS records in their wrappers that's filled with anticipatory excitement.
Purchased. Listen this morning and it does sound great!

It’s also a very joyous record. Summertime feels before summertime temps leave us.

edit - looked on cogs comments & saw that it's Ian Sefchick (didn't impress me much tbh, but sounds like digital cuts for the ones he's done)

That run-out marking is Ian Sefchick at Capitol Mastering. The records I have cut from him are ok. No wow, no duds (some Replacements, Robyn, Elvis Costello Trust, 2014 Rio, 2015 Bob Marley Exodus, Alabama Shakes Sound & Color, Lou Reed Ecstasy RSD).

yea i think they may have broken out the bellers and KG cuts for other rhino albums.

I also just received this one and it's VERY nice. Looks to be the same one that @Russ I got. Has the RTI deadwax and sounds fantastic. Also just a really great session.
Did you buy the copy that was on Amazon for $15.99? And was it pressed at RTI? Or did you purchase a copy pressed in the 1980s?

Also thought Otis sounds great (haven’t made it through all 4 sides yet), and FWIW the panning of his voice didn’t bother me at all.
Good to know, I’ve heard issues with that and listening with headphones to the stereo is almost impossible for me, but I enjoy the clarity/separation of the mix.

Are the vocals panned left or right?

I listened on speakers. Panned right - unless I’ve got my system reversed 😂
I waited for you to respond to see if MY system is reversed 🤣 🤣 . Panned right for me too.

@Colonel4Bin if you're listening on headphones, I think it would be really distracting. on a speaker setup, it's not as bad as i thought it would be and the pressing sounds awesome. i have a pretty beat up OG mono so this is an upgrade but i do really wish the AP was mono.

As good as that Ryan Smith 45 is, the 2nd album is Kevin gray and superior sounding even on 33
Well shit, that would be amazing, and I don't doubt you. I just had that 33 in my cart and then deleted it. Guess I'll put it back and find something else to order to get free shipping.
